 there i was, riding home from the train station around midnight, cycling under a moonless sky a white shape appears in my lights. a cat? no, a little doggy. i turn the bike around and return, it's sitting looking very scared. as i approach, it takes off at full sprint down the cycle path i follow, keeping pace and calling out 'hey buddy!' 'slow down little guy!' but it sprints and sprints finally i pull ahead and stop my bike, blocking the path. it runs past! i cycle again past it and stop my bike and this time it settles and comes and sits behind my front wheel it is a little white and brown shih tzu mix, its amber eyes bugging out and panting like mad out of its little hosed up brachycephallic face after petting it for a while i decide there's only one way this is gonna go i put it in my backpack, wearing the pack on my chest at first and just walking the bike, then once she got used to the motion moving it onto my back together we rode home, her head out and sniffing the breeze she slept next to me in bed woke me up licking my arm this morning her tail was up and wagging luckily there was a report already with the dog cops so this morning she's heading home goodbye doggy

good job op, you are a true friend of the doggos I once found a dog wandering in traffic when I was going out for Rita's, he came right up and hopped in my car because nobody else was paying attention to him I named him Churro  but his people came looking for him and got my phone number at the Rita's and came to take him home I hope he is having a good life and they didn't let him wander out into the street again

Best case their owner was crushed to lose the dog and you're doing them a favor. Worst case you get to have a dog for a few days while you find a shelter. I can't imagine the law getting involved in a situation like that unless you spend time "finding" dogs at the dog park. How can you say no to that little brachycephalic face?
