There was this spot where they leave dead nuisance animals for the buzzards but the two most recent additions were down to the maggot stage and boy, were those maggots going nuts.

vvvv The pictures are down there. vvvv I wanted to post them inline because you knew what you were getting into when you clicked on this thread.

Here they are. This was a coyote:

and this was a boar. This is its eye socket.

I hope you enjoyed these photographs of maggots going to town.

Hey OP! It's not as popular as it ought to be, but we have a very good photography subforum. So if you like to take pictures, check it out.

Maggots are actually p chill. Modern medicine uses then to keep wounds free of dead tissue. You get a shorter recovery time and they get a free meal! Win-win

I think they would be more focused on the photography than the philosophical weight of the maggots, though. If I want to share photography for photography's sake I'll be sure to go there for it, though.

It was neat how even they were constantly moving around and falling off of the top part, the overall shape of the maggot mass never really changed at all. It was like getting to see the cells of an organ at work, all individually plinking away at some great task and coalescing into a larger, functional structure.

I also got to scare the living poo poo out of my sister when I just found a goat skull on the ground in the middle of nowhere a mile away from this. I just held it behind her and waited for her to turn around. It was beautiful.

The grass all around the dead animal spot was thick and green and lush, even though it was the middle of December. Also full of bones.

Huh, I've never seen that. I guess the heat from decomposition was enough to keep the grass lively?

You know, I've never seen maggots on roadkill. When I see a dead cat in a gutter or a dead bird on a sidewalk or a dead guy slumped against the dumpster at the Stripes by my work there's never been maggots. If any insects are eating at them, it's always been ants. Something that looks like ants, at least.

When you claimed the maggots were "going to town", I was led to believe there would be pictures of maggots loving. There is no maggot secks, therefore, this thread didn't deliver.

Thank you! These are good pictures of maggots. Maggots are helpful and they are doing their job.

When humans get myiasis, it's usually the result of some pretty crazy stuff going on. Living oral myiasis is not unheard of. Maggots will go where they are invited... with dead flesh!

After all the buildup I expected those pics of a guy jerking off with maggots tbh. I liked this better though, you should post some more, and not in that stuffy photography forum, post them here where the average people are so we can all enjoy them.

Maggots are detritivores and excrete nitrogen (or ammonia) which is converted to usable nitrates by bacteria in the soil for growth
