I've seen The Iron Giant many times before of course. It is a classic of animation that was unappreciated in its time, but has since gathered a dedicated following among 2D animation aficionados. The only thing I never liked about the movie is the end. I know it was meant to be a happy ending, but I found the revelation that the giant survived the nuclear attack more disturbing than comforting. I know the giant was a good guy and his heroic self-sacrifice was an extremely emotional climax to the film. I don't think the giant deserved to be killed but it would be nice to know that we could have killed it if we had to.

I call my dick the Iron Giant and its climaxes are never disturbing. Edit: my erections can survive nuclear explosions too aka farting in my face

plus it kind of ruins the impact of the sacrifice. the robot in antartica or whatever seems tacked on. that sacrifice scene was real good tho. i still tear up thinking about it

Drunk Nerds posted:Should I let my 4 year old sons watch it, or is it too mature/violent/death-y? I just let my four year old daughter watch it so if you don't want them to look like sissies in front of a girl you should probably let them watch. but seriously tho: there are some action scenes at the end with military-style violence against the monster that involve realistic machine guns, artillery and missiles, but there are no graphic depictions of death or injury.

For comparison with a recent children's movie, I would say it contains about as much scary action as Disney's Frozen and at about the same level of bodily danger.

So we were like "haha wow we were too messed up to remember, " but it turns out THE MOVIE DOESN'T EXPLAIN HOW THEY GET OUT OF THE PIT AT THE END AND NEITHER DOES THE BOOK
