I started with the Nintendo Power forums. I remember my parents had to fax in a permission slip for me to register. It's where I learned how to make sprite comics and my first experience with making signatures.

The forums for the Christian book series "left behind" at age 13 I think.
Really.
Also the foxtrot forums and it's chat room, I think it was foxtrot.com/ftda/.
I spent lots of time on both carefully shooting down requests for adult men who wanted to court me.
It was swell.
Also the reason they shut down the foxtrot Chat room back in the day was pedophiles stalking kids in it.
Around this same time a lot of megaman fandom boards for "robot master teams". They'd just make sprite comics and write bad comedy while pretending to be robot masters, the most famous one was called "the sinister six" and may still be around. Sadly the founder of that one died at like age 20 for some reason.
I found something awful when the mega man fanfic "bass is not a fish" linked it.

A pro-Muslim/comedy website that I'd rather not mention back in 2005. It turned out badly after they recruited me in Norway.

I was eventually traded to Al Qaeda for a half-case of 1980's Chinese landmines, some old-school German Scheizer Porn & 4 donkeys to be named later.

gamefaqs was pretty cool. i know a few people who migrated to sa once not being able to say gently caress or post that ASCII of yoshi.

no one ever talks about how lueshi only was funny because the arm looks like a dick. i guess that's been lost to time

LOL ANIME FANBOYS was good.

also someone got banned when ff7 was new for registering "Aerith dies lol", which then just stuck the spoiler in the banned users list. so then they deleted the account entirely and the dude re-reged it, and had to write custom code to ban that username iirc? anyways it was a hearty lol (at least to someone who doesn't play RPGs)

Tilted Forum Project, which had some terrible posts immortalized in an old Weekend Web article. I was a mod there for years, and while the WW article went for low hanging fruit that wasn't really representative of the site as a whole, I have to admit that during the days when forums were the preferred format for online discussion, the signal/noise ratio could get pretty high (also, it started out as a porn sharing board and was linked to from Fark, so that was inevitable.)
