There was a SS LP several months ago that was going through Supreme Commander. Does anyone remember what happened to it? I think it was done by PC Snob?

Meh, SupCom in screenshots loses the most important quality of how much of an utter and complete clusterfuck any bigger battle is. I've played both TA and TAK and I still have problems getting my bearings straight in SupCom; good thing it allows for so much magic with waypoints. I'm finding I win battles on pre-planned basis but whenever I have to adjust strategy on the fly, disaster follows.

Yeah, I can see where you're coming from. As much as a lot of people seem to dislike video format for RTS Let's Plays, I think you lose a lot of what makes SupCom SupCom by going for screenshot style. Yeah there's a lot of hurry up and wait for the audience, but when things come together and you've got a Czar loaded for bear making a bee-line for your ACU and you need to scramble EVERYTHING to hold that sucker off... screenshots just can't capture that very well.

I think with some video editing and judicious use of the speed-up controls that you could definitely do Supreme Commander by video format that doesn't have ungodly amounts of waiting. Though personally I don't mind base building in RTS LPs so I'm good either way!

Are there many decent RTS's that have a good replay function? I did some throwaway test LPs of Axis & Allies (the Timegate one) and was able to use its replay to speed up and slow down as needed (and also go to anywhere in the action since it was post). That kept it down to around 15 minutes for most of the missions.

Not that I mind the mission length in this LP. It does end up running in the background sometimes, or I've watched it in segments.

Let's Play Total Annihilation: Kingdoms - The Iron Plague Episode 10 - Youtubular

I don't know if I'll do any video editing for SupCom, I'm deliberately not doing it for Kingdoms because I want you to suffer with me but SupCom, especially vanilla SupCom has a lot of simcitying.

That said I'm a fairly aggressive SupCom player so we'll see. I may do some editing at some points so I can show off silly things.

Anyway, next time our war toys get taken away and Cavedog make us play as Elsin because we can't have nice things :negative:

Also now that we finally have the backbone of Creon's army it's time for some more unit descriptions!

Tortoise
Built by: The Smithy
Mobile unit - Combat - Weapon: Rotating Gun Turret

Steam-powered tank with a simple, primitive gun. The Tortoise is topped by a tent-like conical turret sheathed with a heavy rivet iron. This houses a driver and artillery officer who operate this marvel of technology. A small but potent cannon provides an excellent field weapon which can swivel a full 360 degrees.

Academy

Built by: Mechanic and Chief Engineer
Fixed Structure - Factory - No Weapons

This represents one of Creon's most powerful houses of government, the Ministry of Academia. As such, the Academy is a majestic, institutional building. And well it should be - some of Creon's most powerful machines and soldiery are phased here.

Builds: Mechanic, Shock Trooper, Beast Rider, [REDACTED], Chief Engineer

Shock Trooper

Built by: Academy
Mobile unit - Combat - Weapon: Lighting Rod

The finest minds of Creon have captured and contained the electrical impulses which create lightning. Not only that, but they have found a means to hurl these energies at will, and with amazing accuracy. The Shock Trooper is the logical incarnation of this ability. He carries a sizeable storage device on his back and holds a large emitter for directing a sizzling bolt of energy at the enemy. Heavy head gear, insulating armor, gloves and boots keep the Shock Trooper insulated from both electrical currents and battery acid. These brave soldiers are said to suffer little upon their demise since they explode in a fiery conflagration.

Beast Rider

Built by: Academy
Mobile unit - Combat - Weapon: Melee Tusk Attack & Cannon

Ever logical and always willing to acknowledge the strengths of their enemy, the Beast Rider is a relatively recent addition to the arsenal of the Creon's might. This was formerly a weapon used by the kingdom of Jimarna during its protracted war with Creon. A large battle beast carries a skilled artillery specialist in a covered howdah. The effect of the Beast Rider is as psychological as it is practical. Enemies who are feint of heart have been known to flee in terror before these impressive creatures.

Chief Engineer

Built by: Academy
Mobile unit - Construction & Combat - Weapon: Taser, Stun Beam & Cryo Pulse

This mysterious, robed figure represents one of the highest offices to which a Creonite scientist can aspire. This exalted figure is considered the ultimate expression of thought and action. Far from being a lofty, distant intellectual, the Chief Engineer has both constructive and destructive uses. The Chief Engineer carries a large tuning fork which he uses to phase units. The fork also serves as a weapon that delivers a sonic blast.

Note: A Chief Engineer can attack with three different ways, each one draining a certain amount of his personal deposit of mana. His first attack is a lightning bolt, capable of hitting both flying and non-flying targets. His second attack is a freezing bolt, much like the respective attack of the Mechanic. His third attack is a green beam, capable of paralyzing enemy units for a long period of time.

Builds: Mana Amplifier, Smithy, Academy, [REDACTED]

Iron Clad

Built by: Navy Yard.
Mobile unit - Ship - Weapon: Twin articulated cannons

This is the lynchpin of Creon's navy. the Iron Clad is a steam-powered sea vessel with armored sides, and a large cylindrical turret. The cost of such a ship is relatively high, but well worth it when it pulverizing inferior wooden vessels.

Submersible

Built by: Navy Yard.
Mobile unit - Ship - Weapon: Mortar

A small pedal-powered craft that travels just under the surface - The Submersible is still visible to the enemy and susceptible to fire. Lets loose ye olde Mortar.

Note: The Submersibles can only attack non-flying units and they cannot transport any troops at all. They are actually aquatic catapults, so they can attack above obstacles, like walls or cliffs, but better be used against stationary targets only.

Stern Wheeler

Built by: Navy Yard
Mobile unit - Ship - Weapon: Armored gun turret

Most of Creon is comprised of coastal regions and treacherous waterways, so this craft is essential to the maintenance of their empire. This steam vessel is covered with iron to protect its occupants and to lend it a menacing air. The Stern Wheeler is Creon's preferred transport for large numbers of troops.

Note: The Stern Wheeler is the only type of creonite ship that can attack both flying and ground/naval targets.

Tomorrow, doom!
But now, tea.
The Tortoise is a light tank, and reminds me of old 1930s stuff about "cavalry tanks" - it works well on the move, and against low-tier infantry. It works extremely well against those infantry, and in a skirmish or MP game a squad of Tortoises are pretty much unapproachable by tier-1 ground units. A Tortoise "blob" is extremely tough to crack and will win you most skirmish games.

It's decently fast on flat terrain, although as we saw in the video the gun has a bad habit of striking trees or map doodads. The Tortoise's HP are rather low, though, and they struggle against artillery or high-HP units that can soak their fire long enough to start shooting back. This makes it superb against Taros (whose units are all rather squishy), most Zhon (Zhon lategame units are tough enough to wade in), pretty much anything Verunan aside from mortars, kamikaze berserkers or massed musket fire, and low-tier Aramon with bad micro (Aramon late-game can get their armour-boosting aura guys out and run over to smack them).

Like most Creon units it urgently needs air support to spot for the gun.

The big strength of the Tortoise is really the way it plays like a tank. Any player can quickly get the hang of the Creon army and they're very easy to use effectively. They don't need much micromanagement to be good.

Huh, just realized I've had Iron Plague sitting around for years and have never touched it. I've played around with the added, and bonus, units for the initial factions, but never got around to installing the expansion itself. Might see if I can get it running in the near future.

On a secondary note Neruz, I'm aware that the Taros kingdom unit summary mentions it for him, but did you ever show off that Lokken actually can cloak? Not that any player who missed that brief blurb would ever realize, given you have to know the hotkey for that ability.

Oh, Neo-Dragons. Your bullshit is so multi-faceted...

Not only is it a spellcasting flyer with middling HP and a very powerful attack...but it also builds quickly (making spamming them an excellent tactic), and has the Creon bullshit standby of a freezing blast attack! The first volley freezes all your units, then they switch to the blue flame and start frying buildings. They're quite weak to other flying units, but most ground AA dies too quickly if the neos are in decent numbers.

The dragons aren't actually uberunits like they are for the other factions. Instead they're "merely" high-end Tier 2 units. Pretty much every Creon game, SP and MP, can be won by three Academies cranking out neo-Ds.

In terms of style I actually quite like the Creon full-scale dragon equivalent, it's cool and interestingly different.

I like how Creon's response to not having dragons is to just go "gently caress it we'll build robot dragons instead!"

And yeah, individual Neo Dragons aren't even close to as powerful as a proper Ancient Dragon but unlike the four Ancient Dragons Neo Dragons can be mass produced :v:

Really, they're Creon design philosophy at work: what, only an extremely efficient air to ground attacker? Let's add magic to it!

Afriscipio

It's as if they had a design philosophy for the original factions: earth, water, air, fire - land, sea, air, magic. And then they needed a fifth element, so they decided on pizza metal. And metal does what the other elements do, but cheaper and better.
