I don't remember the names but there were a few brute force apps out there that I used to get into porn sites. Also Carol Cox and Wifey's World are still producing content it seems.

There was this one game I used to play the gently caress out of that I cannot remember the name of for the life of me. It was a point and click edutainment thing in Egypt. I remember getting freaked out when you go into Abu Simbel and a statue of Ramses II with glowing eyes yells at you about some poo poo.

I remember when I was 7 or 8 my family bought Dark Seed: I remember between myself, mom, and dad, we played that game so drat much and probably only got like 10% through. Years later I found a step by step guide to beat it and it was very cathartic.

I still have my dot-matrix-printed copy "hidden" in a long-disused piano bench. Never did anything in it but "I'm a culture jammer" Anyway, GI Joe on the C64: Dirmagic: Operation Overkill door game: ...And of course, who could forget those hyper-edgy .txt 'zines like I Bleed for This?

What the hell, this is the shareware version, but on a CD in a box? Shareware versions are meant to be downloaded from BBSes and then traded on floppies in the school yard! PC Magazine utilities, except in this case from something called "PC Computing" which I never heard of but is from Ziff-Davis publishing too apparently and presumably has the same software in it? Anyway their ANSI.COM was cool because you could control the size of the buffer used to store key rebindings so that people couldn't rebind some key your keyboard to FORMAT C:.

Did anyone remember Talkany.exe? It was a text to speech program which had multiple voice EQS and was hours of entertainment circa 2004?! You had men and women voices, robots, kids, old man style. It was just some free download and I remember having a blast with it .

anyone else remember sillyware.com? You could download small .exe things that were supposed to be funny like elf bowling, desktop toys and that thing that put christmas lights around the border of your windows 98 desktop. It also had lots of "silly" .mpeg files, like a video of some guy getting sucked into a jet engine.

I remember Christmas lights. I also remember Kill Sadam. You had little cartoon sadams running on your desktop and you could kill them with LMB anvils and rockets which would come from the left or right of the screen. I also remember desktop killer (?) you had some tools to kill your desktop. You had a hammer, a machine gun, flame thrower, plasma gun, a stamp gun (I know) and a paint gun to ruin your desktop. This app basically applied 'destruction' sprites on your desktop, but it was so cool at the time.

Trent Reznor getting banned repeatedly from Compuserve for impersonating Trent Reznor. Buying a game online and having the publisher call to verify the credit card transaction. (World Empire IV.) Getting a friend's AOL password, logging into AOL as yourself, starting a convo with them, and then logging into the standalone AIM app as them and spamming "im gay."

It somehow still works fine on modern Windows. I also had some collection of "prank" programs that were actually subtle enough to be entertaining. They do stuff like randomly turn on caps lock once every few hours or make an image of your choosing flash on the screen for 1/60 of a second.
