It's probably different for officers but most of the going aways I've been to have been for lower enlisted and populated by lower enlisted so you kind of have to choose a place everyone can afford. Did just go to a pretty good one for a SNCO at Pizza Rock on Fremont street on Friday which was pretty good then met some other friends down at Container Park which is pretty awesome aside from the hipsters if you've never been.

And they don't just say that because they don't want to go.

I never understood the reasoning for large Air Force groups to go crazy about Olive Garden. That's like one step above Dennys, but apparently everyone gets really excited and loves going there.

Feel like a lot of people are underestimating how many kids your average E-3 is popping out and how little their wives are working. Edit: like seriously the majority of lower enlisted I've met with kids has at least 2 and a lot of the times 3. Super rare to see someone E-4 and under with just one is my experience. Now think about the kind of person who has that many kids with a job in the military and on that paycheck and are you really surprised that eating at some hardly mid rate chain restaurant might be something of a night out for them? No I'm not surprised because going away lunches and stuff like that can add up fast, but I do think it's sad when I see TSgts talking about how they have to save up to buy a new battery for their car. On the other hand you have the SSgt with two kids and a dependapotamus preaching the poor mouth about group lunches while chain smoking and eating Popeyes every day.

No poo poo- Olive Garden and Red Lobster are the two restaurants that white-trash enlisted will name when asked to give examples of nice places to go for dinner. People were shocked when I told them that I had never been to a Red Lobster, and that they don't even have any in Massachusetts. To be fair, I'd much rather go to Olive Garden for a going-away lunch than loving Golden Corral. I'd never been so disgusted at people until I saw what the average Golden Corral customer piles onto their plates.

I never understand why people choose to have their going away at the most boring places of all time. Nearly any city will have cool restaurants that are unique to either that region or that city. Yet people still have their going away at god damned Cheddars. A place that serves food. If you were to ask me what the style of food Cheddars serves, I could not tell you. They just have food there.

I have been trying to find the history of my lovely training squadron for a good part of the day today and came up with nothing. I need to find the history for a talking paper my Commander needs for a upcoming CI and I have nothing. I tried Google, Wikipedia, PA on base and tried to find the base historian (we don't have one any more). I even check some Offical Air Force history web page and my Squadron wasn't even list on it, poo poo the Wing wasn't even on the Air Forces history page too. Is there any other options out there or can I just say we are SOL?
