In ours it was supposed to mostly be the big stuff and then--this is the part non-catholics don't get hence their many jokes about it--you have to confess it, as in say you're sorry, and mean it, and intend not to do it any more it's not supposed to be an indulgences thing without the genuine regret, which inherently requires a desire to not repeat the same
