I feel like the case's intention is to give the choice between the right guy and the glory choice. The evidence fits Moller more and he's more suspicious, but Eli is a present danger to the community and Boondock Saints Captain wants you to nail him more than arrest a one-time murdering husband. But it doesn't matter because neither of them did it.

Again, the real problem here is that doing what you think the evidence suggests isn't what a 1940s ultra-religious Irish Police Captain wanted you to do. First time I played through the case I wasn't able to make Eli for it either. Part of the problem being that his interrogation is really where you can tell the system wasn't originally "Truth/Doubt/Lie". Cole using a "Truth" option to get Eli to easily admit he uses the type of rope that Diedre Moeller was strangled with is definitely more of a "Coax" option. The other problem is that because everything is so vague and circumstantial and Eli's a weirdly difficult read it's genuinely hard to figure out how to respond and ultimately if you don't nail the questions entirely right I think you're unable to accuse him. It's just that the game decides to throw a "This is the result we want" condition at the player and ignoring it in favor of the evidence (which sorta does point more towards Hugo) shouldn't warrant the reaming out that it does but Captain Donnelly is kind of an rear end in a top hat. Woolie's right though that it doesn't make a lot of sense especially because after a vaguely elapsed period of time he's suddenly fine with everything. I was mostly agreeing that this case is made way too confusing for its own good and the consequences of "failure" are a bit overblown. EDIT: In a way this is the game really trying to embody the noir theme of moral ambiguity for the first time. Did Eli do it? Possibly, but it's more likely from the evidence that Hugo could've done it. The choice then becomes do the cops take away a girl's father, or do they get a pedophile off the streets?
