Charisma and luck are almost always dump stats. Aside from fallout and wasteland, have any games ever had these stats be more than marginally useful?

The new isometric RPG revival games like Torment, Tyranny and Pillars of Eternity use charisma for leadership and some bonuses, and as always some dialogue choices

I guess Torment would be the best one for making those stats useful but I haven't gotten very far

That's not what gaslighting means you hyperbolic dipshit.
Here's my unpopular opinion. Games are toys, and as such should always have a mode that lets you treat them like the big open toy boxes they are, meaning freedom to mess around with the assets however you want with no negative repercussions. Things like god mode, infinite items and ammo, level select menus, and item/enemy spawn menus should be included in every game.

I get that not every game has the budget to include a full on level editor or creation kit or whatever, but those other things are easy to do and take almost no time to implement.

This is an extremely good idea and I would also add that any game that has a good fighting system should always have some kind of arena mode where you can fight through waves of enemies.

So, the newly patched No Mans Sky did this and I think people enjoy it. But the new Nier also had an easy mode that essentially auto killed enemies and made it even more boring. Your idea of selective "cheat" codes is probably a good balance where you cam turn on or off some features.

I played through automata and all the endings but it has to be the most overrated game this year. If you remove everything that sucks about it youre left with a visual novel.

I think Tabula Rasa and Auto Assault were great mmos that had interesting and varied gameplay which could've flourished had they not originated during the groundswell of other mmos (CoH, WoW, Anarchy Online etc.)
The real unpopular confession I guess is that I would pay money to play either of those again with a good group of people (Tabula Rasa especially)

I like Capcom's fighting games and think they've been dragged unfairly for the last two years or more. I also think Xenoblade Chronicles 2 looks better than the first one. I also think Sonic Mania is the GOTY, narrowly edging Persona 5 and NieR: Automata.

Capcom deserved every bit of poo poo thrown their way for their handling of SFV. Unfinished as hell at release and bleeding players for months while they hurried to patch in content.

I like Capcom and stuff like RE7 was great, but SFV was very badly handled for being the premier fighting game franchise in the world

Its astounding how badly they handled it. Even niche titles like ace attorney got more love and polish than a naturally growing, diverse grassroot scene that got built over close to a decade and they hosed everyone in the rear end for a quick buck

I think it could've easily been rebranded as 'Starship troopers online' and sold like hotcakes. But Garriots gotta piss on everything yo.
Nobody but me remembers auto assault, it's strange physics based combat and weird poo poo like having three factions instead of two. I'll never find a video of it but there was a high level chassis that played 'ride of the valkryies' as you accelerated across the wastelands.

It sucks when these skills just simply unlock things instead of changing percentages of doing something. Your runthrough shouldn't be directly dictated by your early choices and changing it to a RNG system would make the game feel more dynamic.

It makes you look better, no joke you can be a ridiculously good looking person in FO:NV without having a good speech skill. Additionally theres a lot fo times where you do checks for like barter and explosives and guns and stuff, it's way better because it makes you want a character that is a specialist in some things instead of a generic 'talking at people' skill.

Mind you, that requires EFFORT to program, unlike a radiant questing system that just writes it for u!!!!

Speech is more like a reasoning ability, charisma is power of personality. See also: FO2 where charisma allowed you to lead more companions.

increases the starting values of non combat skills. there are some charisma checks in dialogue, but not as many as speech

that way if you're going full on likeable rogue you can get into it easier, but you can still set your charisma at 1 and pump up the speech skill exclusively if you just want to pass speech checks

While you are right about how ugly it is, the game feels and plays great. I feel like it's even more chaotic than Marvel 3 was especially since the player being combo'ed actually has an opportunity to combo break. The roster kinda sucks and you are absolutely right about story mode and Capcom used to think story mode was stupid as hell too until they were constantly reamed for not having it in SFV (along with arcade mode). Story mode in fighting games is loving stupid but since MK made it popular now we have to deal with it instead of those resources going to a better-balanced game.
