I wish there could be some labeling of food that wasn't based on feelgood vibes like 'organic' but real sustainability and humane treatment of animals.

the organic market doesn't want that to happen because you couldn't sensibly label most organic practices as sustainable

one of the dumbest things I have seen was imported 'organic' honey from Argentina next to 'conventional' domestic honey in Sweden.

oh no the local bees might have foraged from crops fertilized with artificial fertilizer, better fly in some of the 'organic' stuff from loving South America.

I have a friend who runs a goat farm and she refuses to get the "Certified OrganicTM" certification because, in her words, "I'd rather spend that 30 grand making better cheese"

It is really good cheese.

they haven't in all likelihood. in fact considering organic livestock can never be given antibiotics if they get sick they can often have suffered more.

also remember: most organic food is sold by companies that are either fully owned by a huge conventional agricrorp or are joint ventures of multiple conventional agricorps. they love organic because they can charge a ton more money for a lot less product.

not true.

organic livestock are given antibiotics if they are actually sick. conventionally farmed livestock are given antibiotics in their feed because it slightly increases the meat yield.

it increases meat yield by keeping them from getting sick in the first place.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhenish_(format)

quote:

Rhenish is a newspaper format associated with the Rhineland. Rhenisch format pages measure around 350-360 mm by 510-530mm (in either a horizontal or vertical orientation). A version of Rhenish around half the size is known as "half Rhenish" or "semi-Rhenish".

that's the entire article.

something's got to balance out having individual articles for all the background characters in an anime.
