The poll was conducted by IPSOS and was shared with Poland’s three main television networks. The poll has a 2 percent margin of error.

Turnout was 73 percent, according to the exit poll — a record.

PiS looks set to win too few seats to take a majority in parliament, even it if combines with Confederation — which has said it won’t form a coalition with Law and Justice. The three other parties have pledged to work together to oust PiS.

Polish media and political scientists are already discussing on television that Donald Tusk may return to the prime minister's chair.

The leader of the opposition "Civil Coalition" Donald Tusk has already announced the end of the era of power of Jaroslaw Kaczynski's Law and Justice (PiS) party, which has led Poland for the last 8 years, and the victory of the "democratic opposition".

"This is the end of bad times, the end of the PiS rule. We have removed them from power," he said after the announcement of exit polls. "We can already say today that this is the end of the power of PiS. We have won democracy, freedom, our Poland."
