I think its a completely fine and reasonable tradition. If you do that to someone in a gym, people start hard fouling and getting in fights, you make people upset. So to avoid hard feelings and squabbles you just chill once you’ve proven to be the better team. Its american sports honor. Not all perfect(weird baseball stuff) but mostly reasonable and understandable

Every single professional sports team the world over rests stars or goes easy at the end of blow-outs if they can. In soccer you take your star out at 65 minutes if you're up by more than 3 and play counter-attack. In most Aussie sports they'll just slow the game down and sub-out big names. In ice hockey you kill the opposing team so they forfeit early to finish the match. It's all the same.
