Welding is that thing where James Bond points his laser watch at a metal object and it either cuts a hole or melts it together depending on what he wants it to do. The Harrison Ford submarine movie K-19 is not a very good movie overall, but it has the most accurate portrayal of welding and cutting I've seen in a film. When they have to go in and fix the reactor, the engineers first drag in an oxyacetylene rig and a cutting torch to remove the broken pipe, then actually swap that rig out for a stick machine to do the weld, and even scratch-start it properly! It's amazing that they bothered to get it right.
