You don't have to have been autistic to be into Knightmare and want to be on it and it's a bit weird to insinuate otherwise. It was exceptionally mainstream. There weren't exactly a lot of channels.

Edit: me and my friends wanted to be footballers and played in a five a side and had our own kit and poo poo and we still wanted to be on Knightmare

This is just competely different from my experiences of school in Manchester.
Football was one group of (the majority) of people and then other people liked everything else.

In other news I watched the friends reunion and honestly I'm not sure why James Corden is in it. Those bits are so short and feel pointless, I don't get why they bothered

The same company that made his show made the reunion I think.

It's a shame because surprisingly THE FRESH PRINCE reunion handled it much better by just having the main people sit there, talk about the show and try and move past any issues. You can see how the dynamic of the group is different when it's just them Vs when it's them on stage even when they touch on the same topics in both (such as Schwimmer and Aniston).

Anyone else finding Inside No 9 a little weak this series?

The first one, I completly admit, I just didn't get. Maybe if you're familiar with Commedia dell'arte, it was great, I don't know. But the other 3 were just a bit forgettable or something and I thought last night's one was a bit stupid. I hate to sound like some sort of entitled fan (especially after ep 2), but it just hasn't grabbed me this series at all.

I don't think it makes you an entitled fan to want the thing you watch to be good. Honestly given the nature of anthology shows I'm surprised that INSIDE NO. 9 has held up as well as it has.

True, just wanted to make it clear that wasn't where I was coming from.

As for it dropping off, that's also true, but this has been very sharp. Hopefully the last two in the series are better.

Inside No 9 is one of those shows that I wish I enjoyed more than I did. The majority of episodes I saw had one amusing or clever concept stretched out torturously over 30 minutes, which winds up feeling like an eternity. A lot of them feel like they'd work better as sketches or 5-10 minute shorts.

I think I made it as far as the Witch Hunter episode before giving up on the whole thing. I keep meaning to go back and watch the ones everyone says are great but eh.

Man Down is the only thing I've seen that I couldn't stand Rik Mayall in. I think it's mostly the writing but every second his character was on screen was undiluted cringe.

It's a weird show. 70% of it wasn't particularly funny but the other 30% had enough flashes of brilliance to keep me going to the end.

Lister absolutely IS the main character in Red Dwarf. The entire show in the early series revolved around him and if it wasn't for him going into stasis, none of the events that followed would have happened. The whole show right up to series 8 is about him trying to get home. Other characters may have had their own 'standalone' episodes but the plot always came back to Lister.

I refused to watch Red Dwarf after Back to Earth though so it may be more of an ensemble piece now it's on Dave.

The first episode of Back to Earth was so bad that even as a loyal Dwarf fan for about 20 years at that point I flat out refused to watch the next two episodes.

I did for some reason give the Dave episodes a shot and, while they’re not the absolute best the show has ever been I’m still happy to place them higher in regards than s7 and 8. I’d say it’s worth giving them a shot.

I also blame the show entirely on my lifestyle choices due to seeing Rimmer as a child and thinking he was a dweeb that shouldn’t be emulated, and therefore assumed Lister was an appropriate figure to be admired. I’m just getting out of bed and could kill a curry right now.

The first two seasons also build a pretty solid plot and the entire plot is basically about Lister becoming a better, more complete person. The fact the writers split after two seasons mean that it never actually finished up, but there was stuff like him finding out from his future self that he gets together with Kerchansky, that they have two kids and that he dies as an old man as he flies a plane while having sex with a supermodel etc. I can't really remember much else, since I haven't seen them in years, but the first two seasons were all about Lister even more so than seasons three through eight.
