There is a short line of tutorial missions, but they are pretty bare and only tell you the basics of how to play. Almost everything is repeatable, and its where all of your new player progression is going to come from, that and following the solar rails.

Being clueless is fine though, a significant part of the playerbase is like that. The best bet for playing Warframe is to join the goon discord, join the one of the ingame clans, and never stop asking questions, if you don't feel like reading a wiki about every thing you don't understand (which is very fair).

With that being said, there are so many things it does badly that the only reason people consider it a good game is that the things it does right are amazing. What annoys me in particular is stuff like the very basic damage mods not being given reliably to newbies, so they either need to ask for it, or get a lucky drop.

I'm not a huge fan of severe difficulty to the point where there are a few great builds and a thousand pitfalls. Slay the Sprie, Darkest Dungeon, Pathfinder - all of these games appear to have massive amounts of player choice, but in reality only reasonably support a few "correct" decks / parties / builds. Each of these games offers no way to respec, either; you basically have to die or reset.

Let me play around with weird builds, damnit! They don't all have to be viable - that's really, really difficult game design that's way outta reach for most indie-ish devs - but then let me respec easily.

Heart aside, because I haven't done it and apparently it's pretty restrictive in terms of what can beat it (but also not needed to win a run), you can bumble your way to a win with lots of dumb poo poo in StS, at least on the low/er ascensions. The 'correct' drafting is more learning the good cards for each class, picking up the right stuff at the right time and learning what synergies you should gun for.

A winning StS run's like 45-60 minutes, and darkest dungeon doesn't even have anything to respec unless you want to do a roster reroll or something.

Hey now that's not fair, you get a worse version of the rifle damage mod that you'll never use once you get the real one. I don't know if I'd have stuck with the game anywhere near as much without goon clan support, it's a confusing, obtuse mess most of the time.

ctrl+space bullet jumps, this is your main movement. Work towards the relay junctions. Upgrade your mods at the mod workshop, it's important, then put them on weapons/frames. I think that's the warframe tutorial. You may be able to replay the tutorial if you go to the codex console, it's back and to the left of nav. I know you can do quests there.

At this point its mostly that it actually has enough people to have a bunch of functioning support networks and people are helpful enough that if a newbie asks for mods in region chat there is a 50% chance a rando will actually give them some mods. And the only reason that happened is that players were playing way back when it was just shooting guys to farm for mods and resources to build stuff, and that was the whole game.

I'm pretty sure you can replay story missions by clicking on them in the quest menu, or at least watch the cutscenes again. The story doesn't start to come together until the mission where you rescue your physical body, so if you're not at that point, it's mostly sci-fi word salad. I think I'm caught up with the story missions more or less and it's still word salad, but the fun kind.

I just wish I could port my account over to PS4, because I'd rather play it there, but I'm not replaying those 300 hours again.

So far all they have done is made fun of Sora and told him "you can't" a lot (not to be confused with them saying he shouldn't, that's a different thing). I know its supposed to come off as good friends making fun of each other but it became too much around world 3.

Playing through the DLC for Homefront Revolution, I stealth a large level and clear the two objectives mostly without contact, then the game says ‘Ok now I’ll take out the remaining troops’ and they suddenly all begin to converge on my position - not great but ok time to go loud.

Put a prox. firebomb in a downstairs room and then retreat up the stairs to camp anyone who comes through the door; first troop trips the firebomb, and it turns out there’s no heightcap on fire damage as it invisibly flies up through the solid floor and kills me dead.

No checkpoint, all the way back to the start of the mission.

Fucks sake.

Last year, I tried to get back into The Crew after not playing it for a year or two and I realized that you absolutely cannot erase your save filed that's kept on the uCloud so you can't start over. I'm not sure why it's even a real problem because that game's story is barely a thing and you can replay all story missions from a menu, but it still made me uninstall the game right back and wait for The Crew 2 (which... ugh.).

Nah, they included a section with Sherry because Sherry has a section in the original where she's playable, alone and unarmed. It's one of those things that was a part of the original, so it's here; the game was designed to be a love letter to the original game, after all. But before it was dodging dogs and had no plot significance, so here they tie it in with an actual story relevant villain.

Was it padding in the original? Maybe. But in the remake it's there because something like it was expected by the fan base.

As someone who enjoyed the Crew 2, it really was nowhere near as good as the first game. The difficulty was way out of whack and losing the 3D nav line was stupid- you have half hour to an hour cross country races at 200 mph, don’t make me have to keep an eye off the road to see where I need to go next.

P5 also has Futaba being kinda randomly flippant and mean to Yusuke for no reason. Although in that case it did feel implicitly justified; Futaba straight-up doesn't get that it isn't as funny as she thinks it is. Still, nobody calls that out, so it just kinda stands on its own without commentary.

On the other hand right after the intro in Doom 3, your commanding officer sounds off his orders with "By the way, good job recruit" referring to you still being alive, said in an extremely genuine voice, since 90% of personnel (military and otherwise) are all dead now, and I really liked that.

I don't play many western AAA games, but the game I'm immediately thinking of that's very encouraging like that is XCOM. Which I think might be important to the game in that case; those games expect failure a lot more than most, so it feels right to say 'hey, good job' even when it seemed kinda rough.

I feel like that's only a big thing in western games, though, because I struggle to think of a Japanese example; maybe a Zelda game congratulating you on a tutorial or minigame, but even then I can't think of examples. They're actually a lot more likely to talk down to you and spell out how to perform simple tasks.

KH3

First off, having beaten DQ11 and then coming into this I was not ready. The story and characters in DQ were so good that I didn't even mind having to still press X to continue the dialog despite it being voiced. Voice acting here isn't great unless you're Goofy, Donald or, surprisingly, Mike Wazowski.

Very conspicuously absent from the opening cinematic is even a single Final Fantasy character. The game starts you off with a good chunk of abilities so you're at least not hamstrung doing four hits on the ground and nothing in the air like a Final Fight character or something but it still took me two worlds till I had air recovery.

I would've much preferred a more robust summoning list or even just situational ones depending on the boss fight. Spoilers for the first world. Using the Big Thunder Mountain- I guess? I've either never been to DisneyWorld or only got to go when I was like, 2 or 3- to fight the Rock Titan is one thing but hell, I would've happily taken Milo and those flying laser blasting fish from Atlantis the Lost Empire or maybe Mulan firing off a series of fireworks at it, or even Stitch driving by in a spaceship. I dunno.

Formchanges are alright but I still would've preferred something more like 2's Drive system. Especially since the hit sounds change based on your keyblade so it can really feel kinda lame if you use one with a good special form but all the attacks up till that point sound like a balloon mallet. Also I keep activating the finisher when I just want to open up a treasure chest.

And finally, some bosses I don't really know how to fight so I can find myself not really sure if I'm doing things right or not at certain points.

One thing dragging the whole KH franchise down is that the various Disney things tend to be hermetically sealed, apart from Donald and Goofy and Mickey and so on. Like, you go to the Aladdin world, you play out the plot of Aladdin, then you leave. You go to the Hundred Acre Wood and do some stuff with Pooh Bear, they don't mix things up much. I suspect this is Disney looking over their shoulder, but the result is that the writers mostly just keep the Disney stuff in that box and thus fill most of the plot with the OCs, so your enjoyment of the series really hinges on just how interested you are in the machinations of the Heartless and the Memory Palace and whatever the gently caress it is these games are about.
