These five stocks represent around 40% or so of the entire Nasdaq valuation, and about 10% or so of the entire S&P500 valuation. Everyone knows this. The market is nervous. It's also exuberant, loves the idea of giant tax cuts for corporations, and so there's still a very strong buy side: I am not predicting a crash. But everyone is also simultaneously acutely aware of how critical to the entire stock market those specific companies are, so any sign of weakness in any of them - or especially in several of them - has to be taken very, very, very seriously. e. Also, a nitpick, but this is not "capitalism" - it's specifically the behavior of public markets. You could have a capitalist system with no public companies that would behave very differently but still totally be capitalism.

The problem with that is of course that they've started with all of the big names and after a while suddenly you're looking at Speedball: The Bounciest Avenger or something.
