If they're leaving the individual admiralty mission dil rewards alone (the ones that give you 500-2k dil), then people who already have a bunch of event and c-store ships will still be able to make dil (at a lower rate, admittedly), while totally screwing over newer players.

It's also going to make gearing up alts a lot more difficult - buying rep and fleet items and upgrading them can burn a lot of dil.

I'm thinking rep grinding is going to be the new way to go. Patrols and random TFO queues award 500 dil, plus the 340 in every rep box, with one-time-per-character big bonuses at tier 5. It's going to be slower than admiralty farming for sure, but it might still award dil (and for new players, EC and rep box gear) at a decent rate.

That free lobi ship is tempting, even if they aren't account wide. Mostly because I really love the Voth Science Ship. The Paradox looks tasty too, but account-wide T6 is really hard to pass up, because I could always grab the Eternal, the Chronos or the Damar.

I guess I have some time to decide.

Eh, here's an update for the gameplay info I did that made it into the op:

Help! I'm a new player with lots of zen and want to buy a new ship (or got a free t6 ship token)! I've already got the unlock essentials! What should I buy?

Excellent question, and to be fair, there's no particularly wrong answer. Anything tier 5 and above is perfectly serviceable. So, here's a few guidelines:

1. Z-Store Bundles are always a good deal if you're interested in buying each ship as it is. This is particularly true for universal ships and cross-faction bundles.

2. Fly what you think looks good. This is the number one rule of being a happy STO player. If you really insist you can try to maximize your performance, but that's on you.

3. Ships come with admiralty tokens, which can be very useful, especially for new players.
3a. Don't forget to take the admiralty reward from the Temporal story arc "Time and Tide." The USS Pastak is a terrific card.

4. As of a recent update, all Romulan ships are cross-faction.

Some suggested buys:

1. T6 Battlecruiser. Available as T6 Cross Faction Battlecruiser Bundle, Arbiter Class Battlecruiser (Fed), Kurak Battlecruiser (Klingon), and Morrigu Heavy Warbird (Romulan). If you have to have a z-store ship, this is probably the best choice - the Morrigu being cross-faction makes it perhaps the single best bang for your buck ship in the entire z-store. It's nimble, fighty, doesn't look terrible (and can be downright pleasant with judicious kitbashing), and comes with a terrific starship trait that's well worth the grind. If you're into playing alts in multiple factions, the bundle is one of the best value buys in the z-store. If you're just going to get one, the Morrigu is a top choice.

2. Cardassian Intel Ship Bundle. This is a pack of four ships that can be used on any faction - two cruisers, an escort, and a science vessel. That's four admiralty tokens for every character you make, and a fine ship of each major archetype to get you started and see what you prefer. For 6k zen, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better bargain.

3. 31st Century Temporal Ship Bundle. As above, but three cross-faction ships rather than four.

4. Science Allied Pilot Escort. Available in the Allied Pilot Escort Mega Bundle, or as the Chimesh (Fed), Nemosin (KDF), or Ikkabar (Romulan) allied pilot escorts. If you want to fly an escort, this is probably the single best choice as a new player. It's both a strong ship in general, and comes with an excellent mastery trait - and remember that Romulan ships are now cross-faction, so if you're new and really want escorts, the Ikkabar is the magic space sparkle squid for you.

5. T6 Escort Carrier. Available as T6 Cross Faction Heavy Escort Carrier Bundle, Alita Class Heavy Escort Carrier (Fed), Qa'Tel Flight Deck Raptor (Klingon), and Jhu'ael Tactical Carrier Warbird. If you want to fly a carrier, especially as the Federation, this is your stop barring lockbox options. For Feds, this is your t6 Akira.

This time you get to choose between a free zen store ship or 1000 lobi crystals (one time claim only)
I guess they really aren't planning to add any more lobi ships, are they? Hasn't been one in ages and there's no way they'd toss out 1000 lobi for "free" if there was any in the works in the near future.

Also I guess they're adding this abomination from Discovery. Probably yet another promo box thing since they haven't made any real hints of putting in the work of an actual lockbox and the borg one dropped relatively recently.

I'm getting the feeling that the future is all promo ships, Mudd's market, and super expensive z store bundles. Lobi ships are a little too easy for players to get for "free".

With that said, I don't think a lobi ship is the best thing to do with the new event reward. If you need a ship, the z store ones are account-wide. And if you get the lobi, it's probably better spent on lobi consoles or weapons, or other things that you can't buy on the exchange.

Super expensive and exclusive R&D promo ship is my guess - that gif they revealed showed a "hero" level of detail on a player asset.

If it only costs "merely" money that will be an interesting development.

Very happy to be wrong.

/bind XYZ "camdist 200"

I think that's the syntax. The normal zoom-out distance is 100. You can bind a key (I use Home) to zoom you out to 200 in space. It's an old City of Heroes bind that found it's way into this engine. You can get all sorts of silly with it on ground and zoom out to completely unusable distances way above the map if you bind the key to values over 200.

3 key "spacebar" macro:

Space "GenSendMessage +TrayExecByTray 9 0 $$ +TrayExecByTray 9 1 $$ +TrayExecByTray 9 2 $$ +TrayExecByTray 9 3 $$ +TrayExecByTray 9 4 $$ +TrayExecByTray 9 5 $$ +TrayExecByTray 9 6 $$ +TrayExecByTray 9 7 $$ +TrayExecByTray 9 8 $$ +TrayExecByTray 9 9"
z "GenSendMessage HUD_Root Fireall"
c "GenSendMessage +Power_Exec Distribute_Shields $$ +TrayExecByTray 8 0 $$ +TrayExecByTray 8 1 $$ +TrayExecByTray 8 2 $$ +TrayExecByTray 8 3 $$ +TrayExecByTray 8 4 $$ +TrayExecByTray 8 5 $$ +TrayExecByTray 8 6 $$ +TrayExecByTray 8 7 $$ +TrayExecByTray 8 8 $$ +TrayExecByTray 8 9 $$ Lootrollneed $$ InteractWindow"

Put your attack on the spacebar, defense on the c key, and fire button on the z key. Having +Power_Exec Distribute_Shields decreases your DPS apparently, so it's on the c key rather than being on the space like normal spacebar-macros.

It's hideous, like almost everything out of STD (I make exceptions for the Walker and Cardenas), so nothing of value was lost.

On the other hand, I picked up the jem'hadar vanguard carrier on a whim and am liking it pretty well, both in looks and gameplay.
