If I'm remembering it correctly they bought the trademark from their company at the end of their contracts. Between their company having financial issues and LE&Hani having good additional income they were able to swing it. I know I've seen some other groups that members have mentioned that the amounts their companies were asking were just impractical to pay.

This is brand new news, Hani only revealed it a couple of days ago on Weekly Idol. The girls all left Banana Culture at diff times, not all at once due to not renewing. Hell, LE only terminated her contract right at the very end before the company went under.

Looks like I was thinking some stuff LE had said back in 2020, where it sounded like the difficulties were in getting all their schedules and stuff lined up (since they're in like 4 different agencies) and not anything with the name. Also it looks like the the copyright on the name wasn't ever under Banana culture, but stayed under one of Shinsondong's subsidiary companies.
