And this is where the entrapment comes in. Superboy wasn't stupid at all! He just made it seem like he was, so that he could persecute the crooks when they tried to take advantage of the situation.

Red kryptonite does this explicitly. Each sample has a completely random unique effect that lasts for 1-3 days. However, once Superman recovers he becomes immune to that specific rock.

You're definitely heard of Carolco. They produced Total Recall and Terminator 2 among other things. In any case, it was one of the many failed attempts at a Spider-Man movie before Sony actually managed to make it happen.

Carlco was a big production company in the 80s and 90s and worked with James Cameron on a lot of stuff. They were killed off by Cutthroat Island.

When they died, it took the long delayed Spider-Man movie out with it. In the late 90s it was Spider-Man and Avatar that were the big projects that Cameron had kicking around. Sony got the film rights to Spider-Man for a song and Cameron made a few passes at it with them before giving up and then we got Raimi. The Cameron scripts are out there if you want to read them. They're a very 90s approach to superhero movies...

Yep.

Raimi kept it because it works with the adolescence metaphor, and also it's easier to explain in a film. You don't have to explain that the spider bite also somehow gave him the knowledge of the chemical composition of spider-webs and how to construct a mechanical web shooter, they just kinda start coming out of him.

You don't have to explain it like that at all unless you're the '90s cartoon.

Cameron's treatment also was the reason the animated series didn't feature Sandman and didn't use Electro until the series was almost over. The villains of Cameron's script were Sandman and a weird Electro/Kingpin hybrid. There also was a scene where Peter and MJ have sex in a web over the city after Peter does a "spider mating dance" or something like that.

What struck me about this when I read it, years ago, was the hostility towards MJ in Cameron's descriptions. It's almost some proto-incel poo poo.

I read the scriptment years ago and my main takeaway was that Peter was angry. There was the obvious "kill you, motherfucker!" line near the end that always gets mentioned but also just overall it seemed like Cameron was going for that early, chip-on-his-shoulder character of early Spider-Man comics.
