The most terrifying part of growing up as someone who writes is aging past the characters you decided the ages of as 'yeah, this is the age of a person I would think is cool and mature'.

For some reason, as a teen I always set that age at about 23.

Horrible. Horrible. Every 23 year old male I know has expired yogurt for brains. One of them, in his car, has collided with owls on three separate occasions and thinks of himself as a good driver.
The worst thing about being 36 is looking back on all the officially grown up people who made decisions that affected the life of young me, and realising that those grown ups were precisely as stupid, confused, dull-witted and sleep-deprived as I am.

One day you will realize that you are older than Homer Simpson.

That is a rough day for everyone.

I think the main reason baseball, despite being way more boring to watch than basically any other major sport popular in America, is so popular is because it's the one you can watch the longest before everyone you see playing it is younger than you. Like, if you're a sports guy and were one since childhood, it's loving rough the first time you realize you're watching a game where every single player on the field is younger than you is pretty rough.

I like basketball and while I've never really been a fan of any team Lebron James was on, I like him as just a top tier player, and it's loving rough realizing he's considered to be in the twilight of his career and he's younger than me.

As a millennial, it's so loving insane to me that he has a wife, two kids, and owns a house with at least 4 bedrooms and he's the only one working and he has no advanced degree, and he's about my age.

I remember in 2020, right before COVID, I went to a Bernie rally and and directly in front of me in line were 5 college student (I think Freshmen, and it was just after Disney+ got all of The Simpsons and one of them was binging it (I felt bad for the kid because he mentioned he was just getting to the end of Season 9) and I just wondered, "how on earth do you relate to this at all?"

I mean, it was just the one kid out of 5 that cared, so I assume the other 4 had randomly seen later episodes growing up and realized it was a terrible show (because the show stopped being good before they were born.

I like to look at things like that too. I have a new found 'appreciation' for National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, where we find that the guy sold to us as being pretty drat useless in life has a massive house and his Christmas bonus is expected to cover installing a new pool and flying the family out for the party. I got $50.

My hospital stopped giving us yearly bonuses DURING the pandemic and have not resumed. I know they know a bunch of workers have PTSD from it because now there are always posters in the communications boards about therapy and counseling services employees have anonymous access to. So at least we have that.

(With all the covid we deal with my department brought in about 4 million extra profit last year by my estimates)
