Wolverine's just pissed that he didn't get the Fastball Special from either Spider-man or the Hulk. I don't how strong Ghost Rider is, relatively, but I'm starting to see the appeal of this team. e: according to the Spidey Marvel strength level comic, Ghost Rider, Spidey and Colossus are at roughly the same level. So that's two regular Fastball Specials and one Ultra Fastball Special. Elissimpark fucked around with this message at 03:02 on Aug 18, 2022 |

I thought Spider-Man and Ghost Rider were about equal, but I thought Colossus was around the same level as The Thing or Normal She-Hulk. Also, I will never forgive the New Fantastic Four for mopey Bucket Head Thing.

The thing I most remember being annoyed about Spider-Man and Wolverine and that whole Bendis shakeup of the Avengers was that those characters already were part of popular books and the appeal to me of the Avengers was to see the characters who weren't as popular or would otherwise struggle to hold a solo series. Giving popular characters more exposure was a big turn-off and then the books came out and the issues with Bendis' writing style made it feel even worse.

Which is why it's okay that the team rotates a bit. Pre-The Gathering (The Crossing? I forget what that stupid story arc was called.) I didn't think those two particular characters were especially bad for example.

Also, Galactus really needs to either stop giving his heralds so much of the Power Cosmic or get a better hiring process. Maybe automate the 'announcing my imminent eating of your planet' thing.

TwoPair posted:Man the idea of an Avengers roster with just 6 people is so adorably quaint these days. Circumstances are cyclical! The six-member team in that issue only dates back to #211, which I remember because it was the first Avengers issue I ever read -- Captain America, as chairman, imposes a six-member limit, feeling that the team has become two large and unwieldy. Some stuff with Moondragon goes down that results in every former member of the Avengers being summoned, a total of like 30 people, and in the end Beast, Wonder Man, Vision, Scarlet Witch, and Jocasta leave the team, and Tigra and Yellowjacket join, leaving the roster as those two plus Cap, Wasp, Thor, and Iron Man. IIRC it stays at 6±1 for a few years -- Yellowjacket leaves and is replaced by She-Hulk, Captain Marvel¹ and Starfox join as reserve/trainee members, etc -- and a bunch of other ex-avengers up headlining West Coast Avengers instead. Presumably at some point the roster starts unbounded growth again, but my Avengers intake only spanned #211-#260 or so, with a bunch of gaps. ¹ Monica Rambeau, not any of the other Captains Marvel

Wasn't there a whole "too many avengers" thing when all the heroes came back after Onslaught when Avengers relaunched. I remember reading something where they keep bumping into each other trying to stop a bank robbery.

They were trying to stop whirlwind from robbing a bank and they couldn't coordinate properly and kept hitting each other. This happened right after their fight with Morgan Lafay. George Perez managed to design fantastic medieval inspired outfits for like every avenger ever during that arc. God drat was Kurt's and George's run on Avengers one of the all time greats.
