It's funny as hell how this is exactly the same as it was in Oblivion. You travel to each city gathering troops to create an army of 5 dudes and Sean Bean leads them against the demon hordes which is also about 5 strong.

Bethesda also try to be extra cinematic with the speech in Fallout 4 but their engine seems to have trouble cutting between characters or using non-default camera angles.

The thing that really is unforgivable about Bethesda's games is that after 5 Elder Scrolls and 2.5 Fallouts they have yet to advance enemy AI beyond "run up to the player and attack them relentlessly."

The combat is reliably the least interesting thing in any Bethesda game because you're just swinging/shooting until they fall. There is no concept of morale or of enemies approaching the player in an interesting way or using different moves.

I have an envelope with slips of paper with every game in my backlog that I pick from whenever I beat a game to decide the next one. I got La-Mulana this time.

Everything I've heard about this game is how brutal the puzzles are and that I will need a guide. So I've gone in expecting that, and was pretty engaged, wondering how far I could go without getting any help. Now though, I've complete 5 areas, and the only difficulty I've had is platforming.

It's my fault for having expectations going in, but it's frustrating that the biggest challenges have been poo poo like, staying on a moving platform when there's a monster perfectly positioned to gently caress your poo poo into dropping 3 screens below onto a single tile of spikes. I'm sure the puzzles will soon be maddening too, but dealing with this Castelvania-like-punishing platforming in a game where I want to focus on the puzzles and environment is really dragging it down. We'll see how it goes, I just want it off my backlog.

One more about No Man's Sky, somehow a couple years out after a major overhaul the game's quest tracking is still borked. I've been following the (or one of the?) main quest lines, and after a certain point it's kind of becoming the default assumption that the game's quest tracking will get lost somewhere in each new mission, and never point you anywhere useful - something kind of meaningful when the missions might require jumping around between old star systems you may or may not have visited.

You can reset the mission, but will it just fix the waypoint or will it remove some of your progress? Who knows? I guess it fits into the whole "wait, you have to do one more thing before your objective" vibe.

Dark Souls 2: SOTFS gets flack for being messy, cheap, and unfocused. But it was also way more fun than Sekiro. You can't play a cross-dressing man who punches demons to death in Sekiro. It's all parry-or-go-home.

That's one of the things I wish they would've changed in Dark Souls Remastered is relaxing the equip loads like in 2 and 3. Only being able to fast roll at less than 25% really limited the amount of Fashion Souls you could do.

I really wish that Warframe had more free weapon inventory slots. The most fun part of the game is the wide variety of weird-rear end weapons to try out, and levelling them up is the main way of raising your rank, but playing normally you run into the inventory cap really easily if you're reasonably inquisitive about weapons.

It doesn't really apply to the Warframe inventory slots, even though that's also reasonably restrictive, because it takes a lot of focused effort to get the parts for and build a Warframe, those decisions have more weight. Weapons are really easy to collect and sort of overload yourself with.

Honestly the problem is that it very much is comparable. its not just surface level features but a lot of mechanics are very much copy paste and rename, like dragonrot, which I swear only exists to have some kind of punishment for death because ??? And then you cure it with a rare item. Or the enemy ai being very much souls ai with some stealth systems added in.

The relation is very much there, and it is comparable, but it do agree its silly to complain about it being different when that is what they were trying to do: make a different game than another souls game.

I mean, yeah. I don't like Souls combat, I find it boring and based around just rolling around your opponent and exploiting i-frames, which are lazy mechanic because you don't need to worry about any meaningful interaction between you and the enemy except for 'well make the player invincinble when they roll I guess'. Or just tanking hits. I love exploring the world, seeing its design, and avoiding its various hazards, but the combat itself? Yawn. Yes, it also has parry mechanics, but every enemy has different attacks that can be parried, some that can't be, no way to tell them apart, and if you fail you're severely punished, so unless there's a specific boss that has an attack that can be exploited, it's rarely worth it rather than rolling to the left and tapping that attack button. Like, yeah, I could try to parry that enemy's attack, but if I fail, I die, and have no feedback on why I failed, so trying to learn his pattern is often not worth it.

(also why I went magic most of the time, because you can just avoid all of it)

But Sekiro's is wildly different. I can run up to four guys, parry all their hits and just deathblow them like a whirling dervish of doom, and it feels drat good to do so. I feel like a ninja.

Comparing the two is like saying that Horizon: Zero Dawn is just like MGS V because they both have open-world stealth.

Sekiro's mobility and combat flow completely differently from Bloodsouls due to not having stamina anymore and the minimum stats boost you get. The prosthetic and the stealth add more, and it feels like the most open game they've made, both in possible and visible paths you can follow and the grappling hook.

It's still the FROM formula, but it is as much a radical change as Bloodborne was from Dark Souls.

The trick is that you use the good poo poo as a crutch while you level up the lesser weapons. Or field them only for lower levelled missions like Syndicate stuff until they get good.

Followup to Shadow of Mordor - okay now I've definitely had Talion get stuck on things/refuse to move faster than Glacial Speed multiple times, which has definitely gotten me killed. Also at one point Talion jumped on a cart, and for some reason kept doing 180-degree quick turns for a stretch which was pretty funny and also surprisingly didn't get me killed due to the orcish horde fighting me at the time.

Also I've barely done half the story and already ran into a captain that was immune to everything besides explosions, and since he liked to jump out of nowhere and kept respawning for a while I had to hope each time he'd be near a bunch of explosives/fireplaces or for Caragors/meat to be nearby to get him afraid. Does Shadow of War fix the 'Super Uruk' problem?

I remember Talion once died because an Uruk spotted me mid jump, and he lost all momentum once the cutscene was over, causing him to fall straight down into the dudes I was trying to escape from :negative:

Shadow of War improves on a lot of things including Talion getting his fat rear end caught on level geometry, but the Uruks can still get way overpowered sometimes. I had one guy that I beheaded at least three times and could only gurgle at me because he had no vocal cords left. He became immune to a lot but never considered getting a neck guard.
