How common is it for a spider to bite you inside the ear? A little while ago I put on a sock that was out drying, and there was evidently a spider all snuggled up inside and it bit me on the foot. It swelled and felt pretty sore for a few days, and itched a lot as it healed. Now, a couple of days ago, I woke up in the morning with swelling and soreness inside my ear, and it felt exactly like the spider bite, and followed the same progression and itchiness. Did one of the buggers bite me in my sleep for rolling over onto it or something?

Every anime club I've run into was full of the incredibly socially awkward but really intelligent, high-achieving people. Despite the stereotype, there usually weren't too many of the "glorious Nippon" neckbeard types. It was like any other nerdy club really. Of course things change after middle school.

Flonase is now available as a generic, and it is a godsend for people with allergies (which you have). Throw away your pillow, buy a new one every three months, and either buy a new mattress, or cover the one you have with a dust mite impermeable cover. The average mattress is about 30% dust mites poop by weight. Until you stop triggering your allergies (by inhaling dust mite poop all night), you are treating the symptom, not the cause. (All triggers each add a nit, but eight hours filling your nose with insect poop is way you wake up in the middle of the night congested.) Edit: (Frequent colds, not easily amenable to regular cold medicine, are actually a common symptom of allergies to bedding materials and dustmites.) kapalama fucked around with this message at 00:25 on Feb 23, 2011 |

I want to fly from the Boston area to the Cleveland area in early June. Fares right now are about $260 for Boston to Akron, which is only a little farther from the ultimate destination than Cleveland. BOS -> CLE is $318. Here's the dilemma: bing's travel advisory (that I'd never used, or heard of, before today) says: BOS->CLE "Tip: Wait - Fares dropping or steady - Confidence: 80%+" BOS->CAK "Tip: Buy - Fares rising or steady - Confidence: 80%+ " My natural inclination, before seeing a fare advisor, was to buy now. Shouldn't airfares skyrocket soon, what with petroleum costs increasing? Is there a better source for airfare predictions or is it just silly to even try? We're 4 passengers, so 40 or 50 bucks does actually make a difference.

Two completely unrelated things: 1. Nearly all my knowledge about US courts and justice process comes from US TV shows/movies. I was wondering to what degree the judge can affect the trial. Is he *only* there to act as a sort of ratifier of the jury's decisions and overseer of court protocol? I ask this because in all cases I can remember, whenever "objection!" is called, it's always done by one of the attorneys. Does the judge have no means to affect questioning/examination unless an attorney first calls for it? I'm naturally excluding instances where the court itself is being held in contempt and similar incidents (the witness is actually being aggressive etc.). Let's just say that the jury is being mislead or some other misconduct of justice is happening that the attorney is completely missing (due to incompetence or inexperience). Can the judge himself make any sort of correction here, or does he just have to bite down and let it happen? Can I assume that any time an attorney objects to a line of questioning, it would have continued without a hitch if he hadn't intervened? 2. Can someone suggest something that I could get a habit of drinking that wouldn't be detrimental to my health/teeth, but also doesn't taste bad? I went from regular (sweetened) juice to apple/orange juice, but noticed it was doing a number on my enamel. So I've tried to switch over to water because it's obviously the easiest and healthiest choice. The problem is, I really don't like the way tap water tastes. Clean water should obviously be tasteless and would probably not be an issue, but there's a metallic tinge to tap water that just bothers me. I'd like to drink a lot more fluids, but at the moment I only drink when I'm actually thirsty instead of trying to keep hydrated overall. I don't feel like buying bottled water since tap water is already a part of my rent (and it's probably cleaner anyway). So do I have another option for drinking, or is there perhaps some neat trick to at least improve the taste of tap water? I was thinking of maybe adding a few drops of lemon juice to take the edge off or something. What do you guys drink at home?

With both sides bringing their 'A' game, the judge's function is as referee, and needs to take a laissez-faire attitude toward injecting him/herself into the trial. Fares right now are about $260 for Boston to Akron, which is only a little farther from the ultimate destination than Cleveland. BOS -> CLE is $318. I've found Bing is usually pretty unreliable, to be honest. A few things: - flying over the summer means you'll be paying a peak flying surcharge, usually 20-30 bucks. - You're actually buying your tickets too early. Fuel cost factors in, but not heavily. Airlines don't start discounting their tickets until 2-3 months out. I generally try and buy my airfare at 45 days out; this has generally been the cheapest I've gotten it. - if you can fly on a wednesday, do it. Otherwise thursday and sunday are good choices as well. Fri/Sat/Mon are almost always more expensive - you actually shouldn't buy your tickets over the weekend either. Start checking sales late monday, most of the best fares are available tues/wed and gone by friday. I booked flights for 3 years as a production coordinator, I learned a lot of this from experience. Edit: I might be guilty here of finding an article to back up my statements, but this WSJ pretty much explains most of what I said, at least about when to buy the tickets. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704062604576105953506930800.html edit2: Oh, and I'm pretty sure farecompare.com will give you a yearly graph of specific ticket prices you can compare to. However it largely depends on his city and most countries with proper infrastructure are fine. For some reason Barcelona's water was awful even though its safe to drink.
