The first Blackadder is less great than the others, but still great. Making Blackadder the clever one, and Baldrick the stupid one was the key to making the subsequent series brilliant. edit: thinking about it, every single character other than Blackadder was stupid, not just Baldrick. Mr. Gibbycrumbles has a new favorite as of 13:16 on Jun 24, 2015 |

Also, the first Blackadder was only "bad" in the sense of, "not as good as the other Blackadder series, but still better than 80% of everything else you've ever seen."

And if the final episode of series 4 doesn't make you tear up and ponder the futility of war, you are simply not human.

Do you know our Secretary of Education had the utter balls to say that Blackadder Goes Forth was unpatriotic and showed a "narrow view" of the First World War. Unmitigated arse that he is.

Officer Blackadder tried to shirk his duty. He was forced to go through with the insanely stupid plan though. Great success resulted. I have no idea why an old fart would be upset about this depiction of war.

He's who The Most Interesting Man in the World wishes he was. When that man dies, probably somewhere north of 150 years old, you will hear his scream across the world as if from heaven above.

I think it was more the 'Generals were sociopathic and incompetent to a man' thing. Because clearly the rich and powerful are never sociopathic, incompetent or placed in their position due to Nepotism and bribery.
