It's amazingly bad and buggy, OP. Like most new things Apple rolls out these days, I look forward to it maybe sorta working correctly by the fourth or fifth revision.

My lightroom catalog, because all my pictures make me wish I was somewhere other than at work and I like the brief contentment.

I really like my XR. The slightly thicker side bezels aren't at all something I pay attention to, especially after getting so much extra screen compared to my 7 Plus. Thicker body too, but not something I'd consider bad. Not caring about the notch as much as I expected. The colors are fantastic. All in all a cool upgrade. Is AppleCare+ still a good value? I paid very little out of my own pocket for this phone, so i'm considering it. But on the other hand, the deductibles you still pay for screen/back repair aren't exactly cheap either. Is Square Trade any better?

# ? Oct 29, 2018 21:50 |

In my experience SquareTrade is one of the better independent phone insurance options, but if you're considering insurance on an Apple device, AppleCare+ or nothing. The ability to walk into an Apple store, drop your phone off, come back 3 hours later, pay $30 and have your phone repaired all on the same day is second to none.

Ok I’m getting kinda mad at this dumb phone where exactly is the setting so that I don’t need to punch my iTunes password anytime I want to download a free app?

I don't think you can turn it off. You can make it use Touch ID though (and presumably Fare ID) that's under Settings -Touch ID and Passcode

I'm still kind of surprised that Apple has done NOTHING with dynamic wallpapers besides giving them black backgrounds for the X/XS which look fabulous on the OLED. Did the XR get the LCD backgrounds or OLED ones?

I’m not restarting or anything else. It’s not a big deal since I’m not downloading poo poo all the time but I recall just letting faceID do its thing.

Do you have attention required on for FaceID, or off?

You still have to punch in your passcode every few days on the iPhone and in iTunes, can’t disable it.

People are weird about the notch, but it’s just storing basic interface stuff that would have been black bezel otherwise and forced that info down into the main real estate. I do wish I could customize what shows up there, but a notch isn’t depriving you of anything.

It was happening to me when I had attention required turned off, which I think was FaceID somehow activating and failing in my pocket. I mean like every 30min-2hr I would pick up the phone and it'd be locked out of FaceID for no good reason and turning the attention requirement back on fixed that.

Went to do this update by ipsw as usual and was greeted by the restore screen after the "Extracting software" phase, followed by being stuck at the "waiting for iPhone" phase. Have tried every solution I can find by googling--would not update. Now it's having the same problem during an attempted restore. Fun times e: it might have been resurrected, randomly, by disconnecting and reconnecting the cable during the "waiting" phase. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk. emdash fucked around with this message at 20:34 on Oct 30, 2018 |

We upgraded to a 75 inch dolby vision TV and 4k Blu Ray. You wouldn't believe the difference of opinion we get. Some people can see a native 4k transfer with dolby vision and say "oh that was good, but It was only a bit better than the blu ray" whereas other people are blown right out of their chair at the quality. We've gone past the limits of quality for general viewing, and it's worth knowing what kind of person you are when determining what device to buy. Apple is just the first major player to REALLY understand that.

Am I crazy or did the 12.1 update completely remover the in-app purchases expandable info item from every single app listing in the app store? You know, the one that would show you what the IAPs are and actually cost.

It’s obviously driven by a if they try it and like it, they’re more likely to spend $60/yr as opposed to seeing the IAP is $60/yr and not trying it at all. It’s lovely and kind of predatory and I hate it. Proteus Jones fucked around with this message at 04:48 on Oct 31, 2018 |

Yeah, I'll be impulse trying and buying a lot less now because of it. Unless, I see a solid recommendation or a good review from a reputable source I'm done downloading apps with IAP.

I can't remember the last time I ever installed a game on my phone. They all suck. The App Store is the worst possible place to discover any kind of useful app too. The only apps I install now are ones that get suggested to me or another device requires it.
