Does that include the F40?

Does this probably mean modulars are all going to be $200 from here on out? I kind of suspected they were gonna creep up to that price point.

Who knows. The Diner was $170 and a few hundred pieces less. Assembly Square was a beast with over 4000 pieces and cost $280.

I see it's out of stock right now, but I don't know if that is how Lego retires stuff

I think it is retired. Just not updated on their site.

I've heard it's going to go out of production soon, but only Lego knows for sure. I'd grab it sooner than later if you don't want to have to buy it from a reseller with a markup. Sometimes sets end up in production for years longer than people expect though. I've been playing with fire on the UCS Slave 1 for like 2 years now.

Wasn't it listed as retiring soon a few months ago? But now I don't see anything listed as retiring soon, so they may have removed that feature.

Yeah, it's retired. Any stock you can find is pretty much it.

ohh I forgot Lego is actually listing stuff as "retiring soon" now instead of just the vague/meaningless "hard to find" listing. that's good. I guess that also buys me more time on the Slave 1.

Unrelated, but what is the ship on the left here that looks like a straight up ripoff of the Battlestar galactica ship? I know nothing about the prequels or EU. That thing is sweet looking though.

In my experience, out of stock means it is not coming back. Backordered means it is out of stock but is coming back eventually.

Fwiw, I ordered Benny;s Space Squad and it had a 30 day backorder. I got an email a day later saying it was "out of stock" and they would let me know. I know it's still coming. Just saying, they may occasionally use the "OOS" term for stuff coming back. Maybe?

Your email says out of stock, but it probably says backordered further down where it says what item it is, and also on the website. When I ordered the Porsche 911, they sent me an email that said it was out of stock, but in the section that lists the out of stock items, it said "BACKORDERED" in red.

This. But I've been there a few times since Christmas and I think it's the latter. They haven't stocked.

What's weird is that the website says the F40 speed champions was in stock at my local store but all they had were a million of the Focus rally car and a couple 488 GTEs. I guess I'll check again in a couple days. Or I'll just wait til later and order from the lego store.

I went to the Lego Store a couple of days ago, and I hadn't realized just how big and expensive the initial Lego Movie 2 wave was. 19 sets, which go for over $600 even if you skip the Builder Boxes, Queen's Build Whatever Box, the Duplo, and the Movie Maker set. Only 6 sets are south of $20. Their price:piece ratios all suck, too. The Pop-Up Party Bus is the only decent ratio. Even the Queen's Build Whatever box is crappy at $40 for 455 pieces. Compare to the Destiny's Bounty, which has almost 2300 pieces for $160, to the Rexplorer, which has a bit more than half as many pieces, for $120. Destiny's Bounty has 7 minifigs, too, while Rexplorer has two with two raptors (which surely cost more to produce, but still).

It really seems like Lego is quietly raising the prices on non licensed stuff over the past 6 months or so imo. It seems especially glaring since all of the NInjago movie stuff was such a ridiculously good deal.

Technically yes but no one ever brings it up in normal conversation, it's always part count.

Amazon lists Emmet's house at 2.87 pounds shipping weight, JC Penny listed the Galaxy Explorer at 3.2 pounds in their 1980 catalog.

Clever Betty
Weight would be a better metric since there's a lot of sets like, say, ship in a bottle which have literally hundreds of 1x1 pieces, but honestly checking into the types of pieces and if they're useful or super situational would be a better idea if you're buying a set for the parts or something

I think the factors are, in some order:

Weight
# of minifigures
Special parts: train tracks, sails, whatever
Star Wars markup (might be happening w/ TLM2)
and pieces.

But weight appears to be #1.

Minifigures is a relatively recent thing, before star wars no one gave a poo poo about them. And it wasn't a collector thing until the minifig series launched.

If anyone wants to bitch about lego's pricing/marketing that's where they should start. Tying "rare"minifigures to sets is kinda bullshit.
