Having a Persona of the same Arcana increases the 'points' you get from any interaction with that S-Link. Characters you don't use grow cobwebs in the corner, but experience is weighted so if you take your low-levelled chumps into a high-end dungeon, they'll catch up soon enough.

Characters you're not using don't get experience, but at the same time there's no required points where you have to use certain characters. I used Chie, Yukiko and Kanji exclusively for the last 4 or 5 dungeons in the game and I got through just fine.

Having to do every loving step involved in that, a series of gimmick missions, is irksome to no end to me. Also this second time around I'm noticing: a) Jungo's story is the best thing, none of you were lying b) I didn't do a lot of late-game Daichi stuff, holy poo poo he really is Shinji c) I wish a lot more of the story stuff resembled the side-story with the detective, this is basically my favorite chain of events in the drat game. Why is everything else not to this caliber.

I only got to day 4, but what is it that makes people say Daichi is like Shinji? Other than not wanting to fight (which Shinji reacts to in multiple ways, but Daichi handles in a much more sane way), the two aren't really anything alike.

There's one scene I just saw on this path that is almost literally "I musn't run away" and then he kicks 9 flavors of rear end all in one event. He even pauses to beat himself up for it in the process and STILL pulls it off. Except since it's a character event they don't let the person you've put in danger get beaten up first.

I have determined that if I end up defeating the staff of DS2 and rewriting the game Joe can stay too. Although I think I've found my first "wait, what" glitch in the event scripting as he claimed he was saving an apple he found for his girlfriend an event after her funeral. Whoops.

Alright, possibly-final question about DS2: apparently my second run was effectively perfect. No death, no free battle, befriended and saved everyone. Is it worth going through a final time for bonus bosses or are they just gonna be pushovers at this point?

Even if your demons are tough enough to weather most of what they can throw at them, your characters probably aren't unless you deliberately grind them off one of the bonus bosses that spawns minions. None of them are likely to be incredibly tough, but they'll require at least a bit of thought.

So, question about Nocturne. Since you unlock skills from your currently ingested Magatama upon levelup does that mean you have to be careful in juggling what you have equipped when you're about to level up in order to get all the good stuff in the end? I'm assuming 99 is the max level and I see alot of blank slots on the Magatama list that makes me imagine you can't reasonably get access to all the skills in the game. Basically what I'm asking is if I have to plan ahead as much as I'm assuming I do or if it'd be best for me to just focus on one or two things.

When you hit 99 every battle after you'll automatically learn the next skill on the magatama you have ingested's list. So you don't have to worry about that.

Am I the only one who enjoys the roadblock/Atlus dickery? I've played enough of SMT to know the basic mechanics and can assemble a pretty bad rear end team quickly. I really don't want to steamroll eveything. In DS2 I treated the bosses like puzzles and counted on getting smashed the first time I tried. Through careful planning there is very little grinding required in DS2.

Any tips for the early going of Devil Survivor 2? What just happened: (early game spoiler) Keita's death clip after just arriving in Osaka. I've been doing okay in fights and the auction and such so far, but any advice about what demons in particular to get, any upcoming hard fights, recommended levels, how I should be using my dudes, etc. would be nice. I've got everyone's FATE thing at 1, so far. With regards to that, I know I'm supposed to get Io to 3 ASAP, but that's it, really.

So you have 254 level ups to work with to get all skills, which is way more then enough, but you still need to actually level up, which starts taking quite some time past level 100. Also, you can use your current MP and magic stat to easily determine your level when you're past level 99.

DS2 trip report: saved Keita and ahhh now I have 6 party members, who do I use it's so stressful at least I have Watchful, so I can sit one person out and have them get xp, but I'm guessing the game wants me to use Keita, since I just got him. I've been building my MC pretty balanced, with a slight emphasis on Strength. Is this okay, or should I focus more on one or two stats? When a party member's affinity goes up through FATE, do they also get a boost offensively to that element, or just gain the resistance? EDIT: holy poo poo, Keita owns and so does electric dance. Don't worry about exp. Seriously. The game is very generous in terms of letting idle members keep up in levels. Also, in Devil Survivor, specialists beat out generalists. Focus on one offense stat to pump, and throw a few points in Def/Agi (unless you want to build an Agi-Phys MC, in which case Agi and Phys get equal screentime.)

Honestly some of the systems in P3P are a little beyond me -- I still don't understand fusing Personas -- but I've put more time into this game than any game in years. It's doing something right. I've never played a Persona game before this but now I absolutely can't wait for P4G to come out on Vita.

You don't really have to understand the specific mechanics of fusion (like what combos produce persona of what arcana and all that poo poo), basically just... 1) Always Be Fusin. This keeps at least one persona slot open to pick up new ones from shuffle cards and helps ensure the levels of your persona will be up to date; they won't level up nearly fast enough from XP to keep pace so don't try to use the starting one for the whole game or whatever. You can always recall something you liked or need for a special fusion or s. link affinity later from the Compendium. The XP boost from having a S link at 4+ is huge and makes persona you fuse a lot better than the ones you pick up from cards. 2) Try to keep at least one fire, lightning, wind, and ice attack somewhere on the main character's persona list, and since you'll be leaning on him/her for healing a lot especially if you don't like certain party members it's a good idea to get and hold onto the best multitarget heal you have access to as well. Those two things were enough for me to bumblefuck my way through P3 on the PS2 after not playing a SMT in years and years, and a lot of people seem to overlook one or the other. EDIT: Oh, and assuming it works like the PS2 versions you can change what skills a fused persona inherits by reselecting the personas you're fusing; it's worth doing this if the persona is inheriting a bunch of dumb crap or you want to save one specific rare skill from the guys you're fusing, but don't drive yourself nuts doing it for "perfect" inheritances because there are some hidden rules about what stuff can inherit what especially as it pertains to elements and healing VS physical attacks. One of the best things they could add to Persona 5 is a reroll button for this on the fusion screen, or just letting you select which eligible skills to inherit. Yeah, what you do is deselect both Personas then reselect them and it should come up with different inherited skills. It's really dumb and tedious but they finally made a better system for P4G so hopefully we won't have to deal with it for any new games from this point on.
