Is that why your mom drops hers when I do a sick power chord on my Squier by Fender Paranormal Toronado?

three days late to filtertron conversation:

what I've noticed is that I get most of my favorite tones when I turn the gain in my signal chain up but my guitar down -- so it's just BEGGING for instrument signal, but I'm beng selective on my side about what I'm giving it. I play a regular Telecaster.

It sounds to me like that's a similar thing with Filtertrons and OD effects. The filtertrons are so weak that the drive is just loving desperate to grab onto it, and when you get a little bit of that, they sound craaaaazy cool.

That’s what Albert Collins did if I recall correctly. Put his Tele to the neck PAF, roll the guitar volume all the way back then turn his Fender Twin all the way up*. From there he’d control his volume directly from the guitar.

*lol

I really lucked out with the stupid way my room is set up, because my cables are so long they can get to my desk where I play, but I have to get up to adjust the amp knobs. So I got real used to manipulating the signal on the fly just on the guitar :P

if you're pedal-less but trying to trying throw some different sounds playing live, this is the way to go. obviously the seamless volume adjustment is almost something to practice itself

Extremely grim and evil.
Nylon strings don't bend, for some reason. You can push them around all you like but the pitch will barely change.

IMO Motu tends to have better drivers / lower roundtrip latency

Motu also has MIDI I/O, Scarlett doesn't. I've never owned a Focusrite interface, but I love my Motu Ultralite AVB and the M2 uses the same converters.

I don't have the greatest ear for quality yet, but it sounds good to me. Not as rich as my wife's Masterbilt Epiphone, but it's comparing my $160 solid top folk guitar to her $500 all solid dreadnaught.

I saw videos where the Orangewood was side by side with the Yamaha FS800 and liked the Orangewood a bit better, but they're comparable. Orangewood sets up their guitars in California after they get shipped from Indonesia so it was pretty playable out of the box. Thing that impresses me most is the finishing on the fret end are immaculate.

Also sounds like the Motu M2 is the way to go. Thanks everyone!

M2 seems to be the consensus pick at this price point.

I just talked myself out of the Ultralite AVB in favor of an 8i6, though. I'm not good enough to justify that cost yet. Plus I was worried to boot time would annoy me.

I’ve never had a problem with the Scarlett series and they seem to be wildly popular for their reliability/price point. I physically broke my 2i2 and got an apogee as a gift or I’d get another Scarlett. Full disclosure: I use a Mac.

Goodness no, now that wouldn't do at all!
It's worth noting that a lot of equipment you might already have can double as an audio interface if all you want to record is one electric guitar at a time. Both my multifx pedal and my amp made my Scarlett Solo redundant.
