Shipping department has a bunch of people just out of high school / college. A few months ago they were apparently talking about "raping knobs" (I assume noobs?). I know this because HR requested a VCR to show a video on appropriate work place topics and language. We don't have a VCR, and that was the end of my part in all of that.

Now I'm wondering if they ever did find a VCR, I'm also interested in the contents of the tape.

I imagine this is a old video from when people realized that patting a secretary on the bum was not a compliment and was harassment.

How is this not a 1 sentence solution. "You are fired" or "Listen to what you are saying this is making people who have never played a game extremely uncomfortable can you just say no scope head shot?". Video is more likely to make them laugh due to how outdated and off topic it'd have to be.

Many many moons ago I had to sit through a training video on how to not be racist at work and the three examples of 'do not do' were:

Don't ask the black guy if he wants to join your basketball league

Don't ask the latina if she can make you tamales

Don't ask the turbaned guy if he's a terrorist

I guess it worked because I've never done any of those things.

Every example of 'do not do' you see in a training video is there because they happened enough times to become commonplace.

But what if the black guy actually enjoys playing basketball? - If I'm asking everyone because someone dropped out it's not racist, if I ask only him and he's never talked about basketball then probably.
What is she's always talking about how good her tamales are? - If you walk up to anyone and the first thing out of your mouth is "make me food" that is rude. I think this is just rude or sexist honestly.

That last one is clearly racist in any context.

These examples are terrible.

Our company fired a guy, who that evening emailed all@MY_COMPANY.COM a large amount of pornography with the head of our CEO photoshopped on all the women. Like a hundred emails with different pictures. I'm impressed how much time he spent on that.

Weirdly enough, our company got seriously into security right after.

Pissing me off, some piss-ant "MSP" that I think is just some guy running it out of his mom's basement.

We are in the middle of acquiring an existing company with existing store locations and ALL their assets. They use said piss-ant MSP for management of anything IT related. Though I can't imagine what that consists of considering all their servers are Windows 2003 and just about every desktop is either a Pentium D from 2006, or a Core 2 Duo.

Said MSP is being extremely cagey with any information, and its not helping that existing management keeps referring all my questions to this MSP. It nearly took an act of congress just to get passwords to some of the internal network stuff. They didn't even want to give it to the EXISTING owners once they found out they where selling.

I have a feeling they might be getting a "strongly worded letter" from our attorney.

Edit: Before anyone asks, yes we will be decommissioning all the old crap, but have to keep it alive for a short period of time as we transition them over to our EDI software and systems. I don't think they have a single desktop newer than 6 years, so those will be going away very quickly.

Seriously, I think that was the exact moment our company realized they aren't a startup and need to do things right. With in weeks they rolled out:

2FA for vpn
separate admin accounts for privledged users
no more shared admin passwords to services
etc

It was like a switch flipped and it was a new company.

That sucks. My company tries to be super helpful in offboarding, but sometimes we get almost totally cut out. One company that left last summer (and basically refused to talk to us in the whole process) flipped out when we contacted them about a down server a few months ago. We were never able to get an official date from them for termination, so I guess someone on our end forgot to put in a request to uninstall our monitoring agent that was still chugging happily along since the new MSP didn't uninstall it.

Some of the blame is with us - since a project team never really got involved in the offboarding we never removed our tools, but their new company left the agent-based monitoring in place and didn't change any admin passwords - we still had full access to their network and devices...

Hah, same here. Generally if topics like hair or specific movies come up, we manage to exchange enough secret keywords to catch on. But that only happens with people I talk to on a regular basis. Had some great Black Panther jokes with my boss.

We have no plans on using their services once we take over, but I also wasn't going to cut them out immediately. I was going into with the mentality we would work with them until the transfer of ownership was complete. My first contact with them was to ask for any configuration/layout details. Which they provided fairly quickly. Once I asked for the passwords though that's when things took a bad turn. They even started being cagey with the existing owners who pay them.

So far I managed to get the basic network config, asset list, and passwords to some of the network devices and the servers. Just that took a lot of back and forth, and we where getting near to the point of legal threats to get that far. But there are some outside/butt assets they haven't turned over the passwords to yet. Apparently the existing owners kept zero documentation of their own on anything. Hell the owners don't even have admin access to their own GSuite account. Though that is not surprising.. The entire reason we bought the company is because it has a ton of potential; it was just very badly managed.

Yeah it sucks for the MSP they are losing business, but they could at least be professional about it. At this point, even if we had planned on retaining them post transition, their behavior thus far would have ruled that out.

The existing owners/company that hired them will cease to exist once the deal is done, so you think they would have tried to market themselves to the new soon-to-be owners. But nope, they didn't even try. Instead they started acting like children.

From what I have been able to see, they are a very small outfit.. Only a handful of employees. Asking for the passwords apparently triggered the stereotypical "IT GUY I AM GOD" mentality.

Edit: We are supposed to have a meeting with them next week. Apparently they use a jump box that they own at one location to access things for management. If things don't go well, we already have permission from the existing owners to disconnect that box from the network and change passwords to externally accessible resources.

So yay.

If they are not going to play ball, they can gently caress off sooner than later and won't be receiving their final payment.

Edit2: A whirlwind happening here... We got the GSuite password! the existing owners found a user with admin and got in. There are still some other little things, but if they don't turn it over, not a huge loss, its the old companies' identity which we where not retaining anyways.

Check for traps I've seen scheduled takes that trigger a script that triggers other stuff and slowly over a few months it deletes back logs and previous triggers then eventually nukes critical data 9 months later, plausible deniability only I found it before step one triggered.

I still regret that being one of my first IT gigs and just telling the guy I found it, nice try it's documented and ask if there was anything else he left. He left a rogue VPN that I missed but he admitted to so might have been a good call.

The good thing is the data we actually care about is on a box running a proprietary OS and software that no one but the vendor has any sort of access to. I could care less about the other servers, they are mostly terminal servers used to operate thier thin clients we won't be using.
