I mean, you know he's gotta be raking it in on all sorts of lovely quasilegal-to-illegal stuff if he goes "Okay Donnie my master, I'll get a briefcase and get this taken care of."

FEC: This otherwise legal payment looks like something we could investigate, because you could have been reimbursed by the campaign

Cohen: I paid the $130,000 out of my own pocket, and was not reimbursed BY THE CAMPAIGN so you don't have any jurisdiction

A reasonable next question is "prove it, show us how you were reimbursed". Particularly since Trump always has someone else pay if he can help it

Man, Melania Trump must be the ultimate sad-brained person. Imagine hearing your husband’s lawyer say “oh yeah we totally paid off a porn star to stay quiet after having an affair with the president while his wife was tending to their 4-month-old son” and just thinking nothing matters and staying quiet. :smith:

I feel bad for her, I wish she had the drive to get out in the media, tell Trump to gently caress off and start the divorce process.

I don't think they are married in love or anything, they don't even seem able to live in the same house or state. Their marriage is clearly an "arrangement" they have and I can't imagine any reason she'd be anything but happy he was having sex with anyone but her. Her ideal situation seems like it'd be him going as far away as possible and never talking to her at all. There has been zero indication they love or even like or even can stand each other.

She's probably imagining the presidency shaving a decade off of Trumps life.

Sadly when he dies. Trump jr, Eric and Ivanka is going to pull her into a room and explain that she gets a minor pension. Assuming she keeps her mouth shut for the rest of her life about any family affairs she might have overheard.

This is all wrong. Dixiecrats were all anti-union, so the idea that losing the dixiecrats after the civil rights movement is what made democrats lose labor support is patently ridiculous. What cost democrats labor votes is the decimation of labor unions and the passage of right to work laws:

https://jamesfeigenbaum.github.io/research/pdf/fhw_rtw_jan2018.pdf

In fact, Democratic share of the union vote was increasing during Reaganism:

https://onlabor.org/the-union-household-vote-revisited/#_ftn1

And then Clinton happened and, whelp:

So the evidence is very clear in that it shows that a concerted and successful effort by dixiecrats and republicans to destroy unions is what made democrats start to lose vote from labor, which was then compounded by the fact that they started to lose support from even the dwindling labor movement after Clinton, nafta and so on.

You may be confusing support for social programs after the civil rights act (because dixiecrats supported the new deal as long as it could be segregated) with the idea that that is what happened with labor.

What about NAFTA?

And apparently, it's still their jurisdiction anyway. If he wasn't reimbursed, and his payment was made to benefit the campaign (that's the part they'd have to investigate), then it's an unreported campaign contribution.

That's definitely not true, as most of the truly inefficient light trucks and SUVs are extremely expensive. A normal cheap sedan gets fine gas mileage. Taxing drivers based on the amount of fuel they use is a good system, and it encourages good behavior. Increasing the gas tax would be a very good idea, especially right now when American gas prices are very low. Of course the Republicans would never do it, they generally are the ones fighting this sort of thing and coming up with alternative systems that target the hated hybrid electric vehicle.

I have a used Honda Civic and it gets pretty good mileage and has an eco mode you can turn on. That's about as much as I know about cars and mileage. I worked in an insurance agency that insured old people, so I can also tell which cars last 20 years, because old people never, ever sell their cars until they literally won't drive anymore.

It's funny because those ultra inefficient and expensive trucks subsidize the sedans/compacts.

The Post Gazette posted:

This time, his visit is billed as a campaign rally, despite indications from his campaign staff that he intends to discuss policy — and despite the fact that the location lies outside the 18th district itself.

The 18th Congressional District includes several municipalities of southern Allegheny County, and parts of Washington, Westmoreland and Greene counties. Ambridge, meanwhile, is located in Beaver County, which is part of the 12th District represented by Republican Keith Rothfus.
