Trying to find the best solution to connect my new second floor home office to internet so I don't have to come into the office 5x a week. I don't think my landlord will let me run ethernet wires, but she did give me permission to drill up into the first floor above the ONT, so at least the wifi signal won't be coming from the basement. The problem here is that my office is on the other side of the house, so even if I ran the cable up one more floor I'd have to get through the master bedroom and a bathroom before I even got to the office. I *could* run a flat cable from the 1st floor all the way upstairs, but I think my girlfriend would kill me and I'd have to get a hell of a lot of cable covers so it doesn't look horrible. It's a row home, so I'm a little wary of powerline adapters, but it's a new one so I'm sure the wiring is fine. I'm mostly concerned about latency issues since I'd like to take up gaming again. I'll be getting Verizon FiOS and just ordered gigabit service, so I'd like whatever solution I come up with to take advantage of the speed. Suggestions? Sounds like powerline adapters might be my best bet, but I have been looking into a wireless bridge set up. EDIT: I'm a dummy and didn't even see the cable hook ups on the wall. Bonded MoCA 2.0 here I come. Captain Ironblood fucked around with this message at 00:58 on Jun 1, 2018 |

Contract companies pick the health insurance that allows them to make the most money. My last contract job was $100 per paycheck, weekly, for their awful terrible worthless insurance. I decided to go with an ACA plan that cost $125 per month and actually covered things like ER visits, and Ambulance rides. My current job has amazing benefits that I pay $1200 a year for. All the numbers are just for 1 person too, get hosed if you have a family. Contract Companies will do nothing in your favor, its definitely good to know that going in.

Yes, you should tell your spouse about shortfalls or when you get into financial jams. No, it does not line up with not being truthful about financial excess when the family lifestyle is already bouji enough. Its not the same thing. How angry would you be if you found out your wife was hiding a significant fraction of her income from you?

As much as I'm enjoying the tale of a retard and his wife that can't read bank statements, I think all the internet scold poo poo has been thoroughly run into the ground. In other news, I've actually gotten some real training via my job for the first time in my life for the Nutanix stuff we have. It's a decent feeling, and the training wasn't half bad. My place of work went all-in on the Nutanix stuff with AHV, and it's pretty refreshing compared to the VMware stuff I'm accustomed to.

If one insists on not running new wires, MoCA is definitely the best alternative because it's built on shielded cables which are designed to carry high-bandwidth signals. Power line, phone line, and WiFi based solutions are all incredibly variable based on your specific environment and which one is best in your situation is basically a matter of trial and error.

Hiding your income from your spouse is not as good as a prenup if they ever find out about it, and you'll still be liable for that alimony even if the difference is discovered after the divorce goes through. Hope this helps clear up some things

That's bitten more than a few people I work with in the rear end.

How long do you have to familiarize yourself with the systems and such if you are going to be supporting. I’m currently having issues because they only gave us a couple weeks to get familiar with things when I didn’t get access until 2 weeks in (and I’m still missing some). I still haven’t received any documentation or training on the systems I’m supposed to be supporting but they expect the same work from me as the people that have been here a decade.

I pay about $200/wk for my family between the health care coverage (Blue Cross/Blue Shield) that DOESN'T cover hospitalization or specialists, and supplemental insurance that pays out in the event of hospital/ER visits. On the plus side, the BC/BS coverage is $0 copays for non-hospital or specialist visits and prescriptions.
