How bad is the electronics side for a swap like that ? Can the electronic power steering be gutted ? What kind of horsepower handling does a basic refreshed 13B have ?

jonathan posted:How bad is the electronics side for a swap like that ? Big wall of text incoming! Edit: OK, not that big (that's what she said). On the electronics side, the easiest option is to build a bit of a hybrid FD/RX8 engine. You keep the RX-8 front cover and DBW throttle body(the TB bolts right up to the FD intake). You then run an adaptronic RX8 specific ECU which is technically a stand alone but runs in a bastard piggy back mode with stock ECU which controls the electric power steering/OMP/canbus etc. So everything still works and feels stock. Except you now have 1bar+ of boost and 350 rwhp. This way you do not have to touch the power steering. Which is honestly just as good as the new Porsche systems. HP numbers for a conservative street port 13B-REW in a RX-8 is about ~300-350 wheel depending on turbo. You could build the whole car for under $10k CDN with the exchange rate right now. Under $8k if we ever reach parity again as far as USD/CAD or you can build/reverse engineer some of the swap specific parts. Subframe engine mount adapter, exhaust manifold, lower intake manifold.

Why do an FD 13B over a new gen one plus turbo ?

Big game season started well for me and my hunting partner. We got off of work around 4:10, drove to my place, loaded up and got to my neighbour's, spotted the deer, I pushed them where we needed them to go and my buddy had this grain stealing fat gently caress on the ground by 5:40. Turns out the lift makes a superb gutting/skinning platform as well. Maybe tomorrow we'll do some duck hunting

jonathan posted:Why do an FD 13B over a new gen one plus turbo ? The 13B-MSP engines in the RX-8 have the following specifications which make them ill suited for forced induction: -shorter and thus weaker apex seals -10:1 compression -the exhaust ports are no longer part of the housing, instead on the side plates like the intake. This was done for emissions, however now creates a very very hot spot in an area never designed for it. Which among many other issues, predominantly creates side seal failure.

Where is that video of the two dudes on a platform yelling at the bear and eventually bear spraying it ? thats the Canada video. Also this aVe guy on youtube from northern BC is a blast to watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8b9ZYt6MzHc He tears down tools, I think he's an electrical engineer but he has a lot of knowledge of plastics. He works at a mine.

gently caress YOU BEHR! I'm also particularly fond of "That don't work! He's jus' lickin' it!" AvE is very good. When I overdose on Facebook stupidity (I dunno about yours, but mine is about 40% pure idiocy), I like to watch AvE tear something apart and tell me about the pixies.

I cannot loving believe this poo poo and now I can't sleep because I'm trying to work out the implications of this. NAFTA is hosed NATO is hosed Putin's going to run butt loving wild all over Asia Trump casinos will cover the world like cheeto dust covers a carpet in a d&d basement as foreign interests try to curry favour The supreme Court is going to get stacked against any kind of social progress I'm presumably going to become an alcoholic Bloom county was right, they were always right. Berkeley Breathed is a prophet and I knew there was a reason I loved that comic as a kid even though the implications of it were terrifying.

I think we are totally hosed but I am also really curious to see the first few totally awkward meetings between Trump and foreign leaders. The man is a living car crash.

Any sort of social issue is hosed but his crazy out there poo poo is never going to fly in a lobbyist controlled congress. I think its probably going to end up being a largely by the numbers republican president. I do think NAFTA is deeply flawed (that was like the one thing I agreed with trump on) but congress is never going to repeal it, and I think the proper idea of following the EEC model is never going to fly on this continent. Let's be generous - transplant entire neighbourhoods from American cities to the Prairies. We've got a bunch of ghost towns. Ideally, we could rebuild the towns of the Alphabet Railway Line - the restriction (punishable by immediate deportation to Alabama) is you have to pronounce it ZED.
