1stGear posted:So tortoise owners just have a live animal in their fridge for two months out of the year, huh. There's a couple of other reptiles that some keepers recommend hibernating just to mimic their natural cycles but as far as I know it's 100% optional. Kinda cool we can replicate that environment in our homes tho.

I was just heading out this evening to the supermarket, when I met a little family leaving the same place. Dad with pram and baby, Mum with very small toddler a few feet back. The toddler (no more that 18 months old) saw me and said "hi" and waved, then said something in Ukrainian to her Mum about my dog. I defaulted to talking to baby mode and pointed at my dog and said "doggie!" to the little kid, and she laughed and said "Dowwie", and then her Mum had a big giant smile. There have been a bunch of gross anti-furriner marches around here in the last few days, and I really feel like it is important to let people know they are welcome.

First turning off their normal basking lamps, then using controlled fridging to slowly bring the temps down til you can stick them in your normal fridge. You also wanna add dirt or paper towels for insulation like they do in the vid. Reptiles r cool. I hibernated one of my garter snakes for a winter - and it didn't seem to have very much difference compared to the other, non-hibernated garter snake I owned. so I just didn't do it regularly since it didn't seem to matter either way for them, lol.

Wanna hear something nice? In the last few weeks, some absolutely trash people have been trying to drum up hate against refugees/asylum seekers/migrants in Ireland. Despite a lot of publicity, their protests have only gathered 50-100 people each time, mostly the same trashy scum, they've even managed to collect Tommy Robinson AKA Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, far right scumbag and convicted fraudster. They gather to shout insults at vulnerable people in protected housing. Today, there was a rally to voice support for every one of those groups, and tens of thousands of ordinary people turned up to make themselves heard. Right-wing trash are loud, but they aren't popular, they only wish they were.

Many cats have an instinctual fear of ceiling fans, with the speculation being that their blades look like the wings of birds of prey overhead. So that kitten could be hypnotized by the spinnies, or it could be freaking out.

Nah, my cat was deathly afraid of it too and the vet said that was likely why. I mean she could be wrong obviously. Being a doctor doesn't inherently make you an expert on animal psychology but it does seem pretty plausible

it's absolutely a thing. I flap trash bags or towels in the vicinity of my cats when I want them to knock it off. Freaks them out completely.

I'm less incredulous of the behavior than the explanation. Cats are scared of lots of things, after all.
