Progress is the booker not booking the most popular woman on the roster

Thinking it's bad that they booked the hot new babyface against the biggest heel is pure Britt derangement

As long as she's not forever tied to the Women's Title, I'm fine with Britt having storylines and big matches. She's over and she's a face of the division/company. I feel like it'd be silly to not capitalize on that.

i bet he could name 5. he could probably name Syuri since she's the red belt holder and he'd also probably say KAIRI despite the fact that she's not really full-time in Stardom. maybe SLK because she stands out. oh and Giulia because she's hot and Thekla because she has an easy to remember name and is tagging with Giulia right now. there's no way he could name all the champions though

And Giulia (Thekla too i suppose) is of course a Sakuraism practioner, having come up through Ice Ribbon.

Champions in WAVE & SEAdLINNNG are Sakuraism products (Shida & Makoto). There's probably not many more influential people in the current joshi scene than Emi.

Also she's been wrestling for nearly 30 years so little surprise she's not blowing you away week-in, week-out in-ring.

I’d be loath to give Emi much credit for Makoto: she wasn’t good at all until very recently where things clicked and she’s been great - starting around her working every SEAdLINNNG show because shockingly working a promotion with an incredibly strong group of regulars and a high in ring standard is very good at encouraging people to get better. Just looked this up and apparently that ability level is inversely proportional to the number of Gatoh Move dates she’s taken (was very regular during her time in REINA: dropped off in 2019; a handful of times a year over the pandemic) so perhaps she benefitted from an incredibly different promotion.

That’s a good example of why you can’t just look at who trained someone and assume they are the key factor: I know Emi has told the story of how in early Ice Ribbon before Nanae went full time Stardom Nanae would be at a lot of the Ice Ribbon training sessions to help out and on a lot of their shows and she got frustrated because people listened a lot more to Nanae than Emi.

The Post boys have been down on AEW ever since HHH came back to run WWE, and this segment is encompassing of that. I especially love the criticism that AEW only caters towards online fans, therefore we must have an explanation of what came out of the All Out investigation.

(And after all of that, they liked the segment itself.)

Ehhhh...it's pretty pathetic criticism. For one, all of this is just so exaggerated and so overwrought, Pollock especially is being incredibly overdramatic and is clearly trying to make it sound worse than it is. He's acting like it's some massive plot hole that commentary hasn't acknowledged the teases, as if we don't have eyes. They complain that it's a wrestling show that caters to wrestling fans, which is loving stupid, that's what it should be, but then later acknowledges that it's not actually a problem because everyone probably does know the story. Which he then pivots into saying "well if everyone knows then why don't they say something?" It's like every moron Dave argues with on Twitter, they're just bargaining in order to avoid admitting it doesn't actually matter.

Is there anyone out there other than folks like Pollock still demanding answers? Like I also wish they'd be more transparent, I don't think anyone doesn't, but that would almost certainly just be in the form of an official confirmation of what we've all already inferred. The people who don't want to believe that narrative still won't believe it regardless of what Tony says, and he's understandably never going give away real details because of the threat of litigation. And if he's talking about informing the non-online fans, well, they're not going to be watching the media scrum either. Plus he announced that the titles were vacated before the Dynamite after All Out, if you saw that and didn't know what happened, you had plenty of time to find those answers. And to Cult of Pies' point, they spend five minutes complaining about the segment and are then like "yeah that was a really good segment." ???

In general, when people say wrestling needs to do more to cater to non-wrestling fans, it tells me they're morons who have no idea how real life works. You watch a NASCAR race from 20 years ago vs today and you see the stands are half empty these days, because they spent all that time catering to casual fans and alienated their actual fanbase, and the casuals never became anything more than casual. It is the dumbest and most obvious trap that people keep falling into and AEW deserves credit for avoiding it.

Yeah, from the very little I've learned about ballet it sounds like their bodies are hosed the same way wrestlers' bodies are at the end of the day. Maybe they need to substitute a different type of dancing for this analogy.

I'm a bit new to watching women's wrestling - how would you say Sakura is influential to the japanese scene? Was there maybe more of a general swing towards comedy and light-heartedness post-Ice Ribbon, and a bit less "very serious, tiny women brutally beating the poo poo out of each other"?

I would say she has had a significant influence on training and culture. There was a period where the prevailing training style in Japanese women's wrestling came very heavily from GAEA and All Japan Women's. It was very strict, very work intensive, and often quite brutal towards trainees. There's a very good but hard to watch documentary called "GAEA Girls" that is online in several places that shows a lot of the regime.

Emi's style is much more built around the philosophy that anyone can be a pro wrestler, and that routes into pro wrestling should not be limited by age or starting physical condition as long as someone is willing to learn and improve.

"It's not ballet" is always really confusing because ballet is an art I think wrestling has a lot in common with. They're both interpretive dances to tell a story and a display of the beauty and skill of the human body. They have a ton in common!
