I slept through both nights of fireworks in my area since I had to work at 5 AM on the 5th and didn't fancy being a pissed off zombie. The most patriotic thing I did was watch Harrison Ford kick Gary Oldman off his plane.

lol this is Say's Law

quote:

The Great Depression posed a challenge to Say's law. In the United States, unemployment rose to 25%.[18] The quarter of the labor force that was unemployed constituted a supply of labor for which the demand predicted by Say's law did not exist.

John Maynard Keynes argued in 1936 that Say's law is simply not true, and that demand, rather than supply, is the key variable that determines the overall level of economic activity. According to Keynes, demand depends on the propensity of individuals to consume and on the propensity of businesses to invest, both of which vary throughout the business cycle. There is no reason to expect enough aggregate demand to produce full employment.[19]

And I was depressed and uncomfortable with patriotic poo poo this July 4th.

It has always been my favorite holiday (Thanks to my blasting engineer Grandfather that would build explosives with me as a kid) and while I still enjoyed the fireworks, I also can't help but judge the flag as being a symbol of what is wrong with the world.

At the end of the day, a large percentage of Americans and most of our government has always been garbage, I was just able to ignore it until now.

It might mean that. There's an economic concept called downward nominal wage rigidity, which means that employers are reluctant to cut wages even when the labor market fundamentals would allow them to. It's used to explain why unemployment rises during recessions, rather than wages dropping, which is the pattern that's usually observed. It's one of the reasons Keynesians argue the labor market is different than other markets.

It will be interesting to see what actually happens. Cutting the minimum wage from 10 to 7 is pretty clearly a dumb idea regardless. New hires will certainly be affected.
