Thanks to building a bunch of the City Creator Expert modular sets, plus the hidden side bus and school, I've constructed more lego toilets in the last year than I care to admit.

Yeah, the price is insane. I have dabbled in some off brand Lego. Only original builds, so no copycat stuff like the Lepin brand. I find it very interesting to see the quality of the other brands I tested. All of them are pretty good, but sometimes pieces are not cast perfectly (maybe 1 in 1000 or so, but something I never saw from Lego), but the overall quality is close to Lego.

There's an offbrand Technic maker where I am pretty sure I couldn't tell the difference - outside of the color difference - in tile quality.

Some of the sets are really nice, and provide cool parts, and some of the companies provied really cool, new ways to build, like the way Coby for example rotate the build direction by 180° everytime they want, and the result looks awesome (though the pieces needed for at are so small that I assume children wouldn't have fun with them....heck, I hated them, but the idea is cool).

Still, of all the brands I tested, every set had some smaller things or defects that Lego never has. Imo, one should be open to try them out, but shouldn't expect the quality of Lego, of course.

Seriously, shut the fuck up.

:dukedog:
I picked up a couple of the Destiny Mega Construx from Toys R Us when they were on clearance, like 85% off. One I had to return because it was missing pieces that were critical to the construction, not just one, but all of the type of piece, and the other had pieces that were so malformed in the mould that I had to damage them to get them to fit. The instructions also weren't the best. For the price, they were good, but I'm talking an $80 set for $12 or so.

A gun isn't a gun unless it shoots Magic.
I’ve bought a few of the Destiny and COD Mega sets, but solely for the figures. I would be willing to bet that Grayskull shows up at a discount store like Ross in a few months. Speaking of Ross, if anyone still plays Lego Dimensions I’ve seen the Fantastic Beasts story pack there for $13.

Well, of course I know him.
He's me.
The Mega Construx figures are decent, but all the actual builds really make me appreciate how well LEGO stuff is designed and manufactured. The quality of the Mega bricks are loving awful and just covered in serial numbers and mould lines.

I have the large Detective Pikachu that mega construx put out and it's alright. Has some weird shaped pieces as well as alternate instructions for attaching the tail without using a spring. It rests on my desk next to all my bootleg minifigs.

Same here. Finally bit the bullet on the Volkswagen Beetle specifically to get it. Also wanted the Juice Bar as well, so it's not a huge loss if I don't get it, but it would be nice to be wrong.

I found 19 of the new minifigs at a gamestop, and after about 20 minutes of feeling, I just said gently caress it and bought them all. Something of a mistake.
2 foxes, 3 bears, 2 gamers, 2 blacktron, 2 mummy, 2 adventurers, 2 robotics women, 3 rugby players, and 1 ghost knight. Doubles of some things were wanted, but triples of the bear and rugby player were too much. I was positive one of them was the pizza guy, but I have no idea what it wound up being. That costume is incredibly distinctive, and I have no idea how I managed to misidentify it.

Hope I find them elsewhere this week.

Also, Costco had several sets available, including the Outdoor Adventures People Pack, for $12 off MSRP. They've got a 1500 piece brick box for like $40, too, if you're still looking for bulk buys.

Hidden Side High School trip report:

Too many stickers. Way way too many stickers. And bad ordering for the set up. A lot of steps are done after they should have which makes the build a bit more challenging than it should be.

But once done, it looks nice and haunting it is cute.

Would not recommend, though. Mainly due to stickers and poor instructions.
