I always figured a car salesman would be happy to deal with someone who knows what they want and what it's worth since it'd be an easy transaction to boost their numbers and get the base sale commission. What I hadn't realized was that car salesman aren't just scumfuck pieces of poo poo, they're also lazy and stupid. And after daily driving a manual in traffic, gently caress that bring on the automatic next purchase

There's a few Model 3's in my apartment garage and one already got side swiped from the looks of it. A very expensive and difficult to repair car from what I have read. In other news, I still haven't seen any of the new Lexus LS models on the road.

As funny as that take is, I meant more in the root cause sense of why you're forced to commute through heavy traffic regularly. The larger systemic problems, things like a lack of reliable and attractive public transportation, poor infrastructure planning, lack of affordable housing near places of work, the rise of suburban hell neighborhoods necessitating long commutes, etc. Although it's really tempting to just say gently caress everyone else while stuck in traffic.

I love cars but hate driving because most of my time spent driving is being sat in traffic. Manual is definitely more interesting in traffic though because what the gently caress else have you got to do with your time? Might as well shift gears a million times, right?

I don't personally mind driving a manual in traffic, it basically forces you to break the stupid gas-brake-gas-brake seesawing that a lot of people mindlessly do. Just find the flow and go with it as best you can. But I still hate driving in traffic in general, regardless of vehicle or transmission. I'm working on redesigning my life and work around sitting in traffic as little as possible. When I've been able to commute via transit, biking, or walking I just generally feel 10x better and less stressed out/pissed off throughout the day. I just feel both physically and mentally healthier. Not commuting via car also makes driving for fun something I actually end up doing, since I didn't already spend an hour in the car most days.

Twerk from Home posted:They don't really want to sell cars to hard or picky customers if your market has plenty of easy customers walking through the door who just want to buy an automatic Crosstrek. Both of my wife's previous cars (both Fords) I made the salesperson special-order the car from the factory with a manual. I had to wait over three months for each, but I got them. One was a high-spec Fiesta, the other was a high-spec Focus.

I recently moved making the journey a lot longer and logistically impossible to ride without commuting most of the way then getting my bike out of the car etc. I've been noticeably more 'down' than I usually am and my incredibly well toned arse is now far more disappointing than it was. I'm looking at getting a motorbike because what should be roughly a 20 minute drive takes 3x that and it's just not cool.

I specifically choose higher real estate taxes and cost to put myself in the most favorable traffic conditions. The first 3 miles of my 9 mile commute are in a stop and go business district, but the rest is highway with half of that running counter to the normal flow of traffic. It takes a pretty big issue/event to cause me to sit in stop and go traffic thankfully.

The service manager of a local Subaru dealership used to work for one of the bigger Ford dealerships around here. He told me their QC lately has been atrocious. Parts missing, driveshaft supports bolted in upside down on Mustangs, enough that he wouldn’t go near one. Anecdotal but that’s what this thread is for I guess
