Will order the parts today, replace that belt and the tensioner, and another belt that's looking a bit off. Should have it ready for you Friday or Saturday". Heating fan also started to limp (blowing wasn't as quick or as hot as it was earlier) on the way to the mechanic, which he said should also be one of the belts that need replacing. I told him that's fine.

Are the diesels as bad about God drat Cooling System? If so, I've got bad news about your car and probably have a better explanation about why the heat isn't working as well as it was than a disparate belt (which doesn't exist inside the blower system.) Now, there is a separate belt for the AC compressor unless that is also different on the oil burners, but to reiterate, I now have more questions about your understanding of the problem *or* the competency of your mechanic if that's the answer you got.

Well the air conditioning has been poo poo since the get go (no cold air), but the fan behind it worked fine. Now the fan behind it is barely blowing. Well, lets see if he fixes the blowing of the hot air to blow harder and the power steering to power steer. If he doesn't fix the steering, I'll be pissed. The heat, well, I can take it to a specialist at some point. My understanding of the problems is "power steering don't work, air conditioner blows no cold air, blower for hot/cold air now blows not as hard as it used to yesterday.". I.e. I know gently caress all.

Last 2 cars have been E36 and E90s but looking for something larger. Each lasted 10yrs or so. Are there any red flags or caution signs to avoid on the 18/19 m550 or x5 i40?

Is there an easy way for me to tell if I actually have a 2.5 or not? I believe he got conned into replacing it, I can't remember what the exact problem was. This was a friend's car, he sold it to me for a song because I was in a pinch and he didn't really want it anymore. I'd be happy to answer any other questions people might have about it. It's been a great car, the only downside is running premium and having a super long commute, but it is what it is.

Easiest way I can think of is to look at the VIN cast into the engine and decode it, that will tell you the build info of the car it came out of. Steakandchips posted:Well the air conditioning has been poo poo since the get go (no cold air), but the fan behind it worked fine. I wasn't trying to be snide--what I was saying is, that if the belt slippage is bad enough that it caused the PS to fail or function suboptimally, that would also impact your coolant pump's effectiveness, which might cause issues up to and including a blown headgasket which induces all sorts of fun failure modes, which could include a lack of heat. The blower motor is probably purely incidental as it is electric (but again, lol, the belt would impact your alternator, too...) Best of luck.

It’s allegedly improved a lot in the 10 years or so it’s been around but I personally wouldn’t want to deal with it. The B58 the x40 cars is pretty reliable, I currently own one in my ugly fake M car. Honestly, the B58 is where it’s at if you’re planning to keep it for a decade.

Really appreciate the input. Test drove two diff x5s this afternoon and they felt great and fun. Thankfully the m550 they had in stock absolutely reeked of cigarette smoke so I didn't even bother trying it out. The engine opinions here solidified that choice. Now to pick between Black/Cognac or Arctic Grey/Black color combos.

Is it worth it to throw a tune on a manual F80? I've had it since late 2015, and I'm getting a weird itch to throw some bronze TE37 18"s, an akrapovic exhaust, and a tune on it I'm also vaguely interested in getting a G81 wagon, but they probably won't offer it in a stick and I can't really get over the new design

Anyone here in the Seattle area and/or have a rec for a shop? General maint beyond the easy self stuff also potentially looking for a shop that does builds too. I don’t think it’s cooling off. You just had a stupid dealership panic pay you for your allocation when there shouldn’t have been under the allusion that they could resell it for $10k over sticker on an m340i. That’s m3 markup not m340. Average sale prices are still high, you’re just seeing the crazy advertised gouging prices that no one was actually paying going away. The real signal that things are cooling off is when the used wholesale prices come back to earth. That hasn’t happened yet.

Even pre-pandemic, there’s a load of people who can’t afford a new 340 but can afford the last gen one + the $4k for down pipe + tune + hybrid turbos so they can troll Hellcats with and post videos of themselves doing illegal poo poo on social media. I don’t recommend the B58/M340 facebook groups by the way.

My goddamned indies went through some ownership changes and then raised their prices so much and also banned bringing in parts (so they could mark up) that the dealer is mostly just as good of a deal (or even cheaper now for things like alignments). Plus the dealer is only like 1/2 mile away with a free ride home.

EvilBlackRailgun posted:Have any of you guys with F8Xs flashed the GTS settings onto your cars? Was it a noticeable difference? I started with the CS+ flash from BM3 and then went with the full stage one after that. They were both noticeably different from stock. I don't think the GTS one if super different from the CS one as far as the tune goes. If you're talking about the GTS flash that does transmission, diff, and suspension changes then you may or may not notice much difference outside of how the car shifts from what I've heard. I will say that I did install a crank hub capture for peace of mind before going stage one.

Yeah I have a non-ZCP 6 speed, so it would just be for the steering, diff, and traction control. Most people on bimmerpost say the non-ZCP feels weird with the GTS and CS EDC tune. May not be worth the price without a DCT equipped comp pack car Good call on the crank hub capture, I'll look into that e: Carplay is pretty tempting too EvilBlackRailgun fucked around with this message at 02:24 on Dec 20, 2021 |
