I cant really remember them but i do remember thinking that they at least wrapped up the series nicely, despite having gone on too long.

reading Gibson's collection of essays DISTRUST THAT PARTICULAR FLAVOR - if you're a fan of his fiction this is a good pick-up, short enough pieces to dip into on a break but all with that inimitable WG style.

the more I read here the more I see just how much of his lived experience went into his fiction books, if you're familiar with them you'll get 'ah yes' feelings when he writes about midnight in Tokyo, or collecting mechanical watches or a bunch of other stuff.

check out thirteen views of a cardboard city if you haven't already. it's short, but you can see the kind of style that really started to show through in the bridge trilogy and the blue ant books

watched Mr. Nice Guy last night, and it's pretty skippable. Sammo's directing, leaving Jackie to do his thing around the pretty thin plot. that does mean that the action set pieces are much longer and often more involved than usual for a Jackie film, so that's a mark in its favour.

:monocle: https://variety.com/2024/film/global/phil-tippett-sentinel-frontieres-cannes-1235997320/

quote:

VFX icon and “Mad God” director Phil Tippett is working on a new stop-motion feature titled “Sentinel,” which will be pitched for the first time at this year’s Frontières section of Cannes’ Marché du Film.

Variety has been given exclusive access to the first plot details and set images from “Sentinel,” which shares a visual fidelity with “Mad God.” However, in terms of production, things will be very different this time around.

“Mad God” was a project that Tippett worked on off and on for thirty years. A similar timetable isn’t realistic for “Sentinel,” as the director would be over 100 at the film’s premiere. So, Tippett and producer Colin Geddes (Ultra 8 Pictures) say they’re pursuing a more conventional development and production plan with their new project, including a clearer narrative focus. Tippett has already begun filming bits of the film, and his team will be sharing a concept video with potential partners in Cannes.

took 3 tries, but I finally got to the theater to see The Roundup: Punishment, and it's pretty great!

I did no further reading on the site beyond "This action comedy is a huge hit in South Korea" so I literally didn't know what to expect going in. turns out it's the 3rd in The Roundup series about a tough cop who goes about crime solving his own way. this one happened to be about online casinos and crypto, so bang up to date lol.

lotsa good action and a tight story with some good laughs , so now I'm gonna have to track down the other 2

i give it a 3.6/5. not great, not terrible. i think it suffered from first-season-itis where they have to introduce the world and characters and backstory and whatever and the rest gets sort of rushed. it jumped around to too many different stories -- fallout, as an rpg, is about following one person in a huge world, not an ensemble of dozens of characters across the wasteland and in different timelines.

i still enjoyed it, though, and i bet season 2 will be sharper.
