Nokia is doing Android One for all their phones here on out. The only exception is the bare bones Nokia 1 which will be Android Go.

I can understand them not bringing every single model over, but stuff like the Nokia 1 and the Nokia 6 has the possibility of eating a lot of Moto's lunch here. The Nokia 1 is hilariously low spec, but it's kind of endearing in that respect. It's really 2018's version of a featurephone, yet far more functional. It would be awesome if you could just walk into Best Buy or Target and buy this thing for $85 unlocked and up to date.

Chinese tablets will likely not get updates and have the possibility of backdoors/phoning home tour information. The amazon hd8 is like 80 bucks and works fine, and receives updates from Amazon fairly frequently And you of course get a warranty and support Blue Train fucked around with this message at 23:58 on Feb 25, 2018 |

It's looking like the s9 unlocked is slightly cheaper then last year's s8.. $720.. They are offering 350 for a s8 trade in and I think I'm going to fall for it. I figure I normally upgrade every two years but then hang on to the old phone anyway for no reason and if the options are 700 every two years or 350 every year the advantage of the trade in is somewhat obvious if I'm sticking with galaxy phones.

I haven't had the pixel 2 xl for long but I've been having an issue with the phone screen randomly not waking up after charging until I hard reset the phone. If I'm listening to something over Bluetooth, it will continue to play through this state and I can pause / resume with my neckbuds. I can double tap power to camera and try to unlock it with the finger print sensor and it'll vibrate like normal but the screen won't turn on. I'm using this Aukey car charger with my Google USB cable. It won't work with the other two cables I have. I'm using this Anker USB 3.1 gen 2 cable with my Google charger. I'm also using this old tronsmart portable charger and this old Belkin USB-C 2.0 cable with it, mainly to charge my Switch. I'm going to go back to using the Google charger / cable exclusively to see if it still happens, I have a car inverter lying around, too. But it's not every time I charge with the current setup. If it still persists, I'm going to start deleting some apps. Has anybody had this happen?

Kind of Android adjacent, but does anyone have a recommendation on micro usb cables that don't break in like a loving month? Every one I buy off Amazon craps out so quickly. I wouldn't mind paying more for one that will last, if I just knew which one that was (also would hopefully be available in longer lengths)

I don't think Chinese state intelligence is the main target of concern. Those backdoors seem to get discovered and disclosed pretty regularly by security researchers, and it would seem naive not to assume that more aren't being discovered by third parties who keep them to themselves to exploit.

If it's like the 5x / 6x it's probably a decent phone with above-average hardware for the price and a clunky, infrequently updated software experience. My mother has had an Honor 6x since it launched about a year ago, and likes it. If you can wait a month the Moto G6 is likely better software, but Honor 7x looks fine for the money.

So instead of vague FUD, do you actually have any information about the specific threats that have been disclosed to date? It seems that there is one company, Blu, that had a big malware outbreak last year, but I haven't seen any other specific disclosures. The main thing I'd worry about from a Chinese phone from a security standpoint is maybe corporate espionage. Foreign countries might not care about what your porno tastes are, or what your Google password is, but I could see them absolutely wanting to steal trade secrets if you use your phone for that sort of thing. Or, if you work at an institution that is important enough, they could use your inside info to infiltrate it. If you have stuff at work worth safeguarding, you may want to think twice about using a Chinese phone. I think that's why US government agencies are warning citizens about it. Otherwise, go nuts.

I really want to get out of iOS, currently using an iphone SE which is... fine but I want a better display in addition to wanting to be on android. Is there anything I should be looking at besides the S9? They're doing an offer where you can trade in any functioning phone for $150 off + the value of the phone. I was going to send in an old piece of poo poo iphone 5 for this that's sitting in my drawer. The 1080p display on the Pixel 2 is not enough for me and I heard the XL has lots of problems with the display. I don't know much about other android phones. e: I'm out of contract, Canadian, and have a plan that I like very much but they won't renew so I'm only looking to buy an unlocked phone.
