Cat rear end Trophy posted:When visiting NZ a few years ago, I was from time to time forced to watch cricket. The game was easy enough to figure out. The problem I had with it was the fact that you could pretty much tell by 30 minutes into the match who the loser was going to be, and there was not a single thing short of a miracle that could change the inevitable outcome. It was sort of like chess. You know you are going to lose, you can see the loss coming from a mile away, and there is nothing you can do to stop it. But at least in chess you can resign the game and skip all that misery. Not so in cricket. You got to spend the next half of the day running that poo poo into the ground. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=doZzrsDJo-4

Social media is cool because it provides us an inside view into current general attitudes Do jack offs still try to argue that we live in a post racial society? I remember that being a thing for a while but champions of such assertions sure seem to have dwindled ever since every single rear end in a top hat in the US became internet "savvy" and social media exploded with trashiness x 5000

Takes No Damage posted:I still feel SH on myself for this. I'm pretty smart but no genius, but that meant I was in this weird sweet spot in high school where I didn't really have to try and still got As and Bs, some Cs mixed in because lol gently caress the man school sux . What I didn't realize at the time is that meant I never learned how to study or prep for exams and that poo poo DOES NOT work in university engineering programs. Que me almost flunking out my freshman year and having to change majors to a degree with lower GPA requirements. I still think about the irony that if I wasn't quite as intelligent as I am, I would have had to study all through HS and probably would have been fine in college. Literally too smart for my own good. I coasted through university engineering problems doing exactly that. My high school math teacher warned me that if I didn't study properly, I would hit a wall in college. It never happened. I now have an extremely successful career. Although for me it wasn't "lol school sux" it was a toxic home environment making studying impossible. Also intelligence isn't a character sheet value dude, it doesn't work that way. Intelligence is an n-dimensional manifold that can't be easily collapsed to a scalar value. Things like IQ which attempt to do so are inherently misguided and the only people who care about IQ numbers are assholes, not smart people. Its not that you were "too smart" its that you're lazy. People wondering why Australia, and Britain for that matter, haven't gotten rid of the Queen, need to take a look at Australian and British politicians, and realise that getting rid of the royalty means more politicians. (that and the government always tries to use republic referendums to get across some screwy scheme or deliberately muddies what it might actually look like so people stick to the status quo)

Snowglobe of Doom posted:Next time they mention it say something like "Y'know, Indians always talk about how being conquered and brutally subjugated by the British Empire for so long and having that culture forced upon them was such a terrible thing but the fact that they still obsess over this British sport so much makes me suspect that they also miss it a tiny bit" and see how they react. Well, unless you're an Aborigine: no, being an Aussie doesn't have quite the same relationship with English colonialism as being Indian. Here the conquerors won. There, they eventually left and the original inhabitants are still picking up the pieces. I had a high enough INT score to cost through public school, but not enough to roll +7 on university exams without properly taking notes or studying, which I didn't really know how to do because I'd never needed to do it before, was my point And yes I am absolutely the laziest motherfucker, and even today sometimes find myself justifying it by pretending to just look for the most efficient way of doing things. Why should I fulfill more than the minimum requirements? That's why they're called the minimum. Anything else is just wasted energy. Takes No Damage has a new favorite as of 09:00 on Sep 16, 2017 |
