Their community is a mere shell of what it was, and it's like the same 10 people that post on there. I feel bad for Opie in that he's been getting a lotta hate sent his way because he's not funny and he's not Anthony. He was never that guy to begin with, and he's been put in an impossible spot because Ant couldn't just shut his loving trap. I've liked most of the Opie and Jim shows so far because they all feel like friday shows where a comedian comes in. Those are my favorite shows. Not feelin Anthony Cumia's show yet, but it's only been two shows. Dice show just felt corny and dated, "we got bikini girls serving drinks!" Real Jimmy Buffet white trash poo poo.

I decided to wade through Opie's twitter since you guys said he's been getting poo poo. The one thing I noticed is how much of an idiot Anthony's brother is. He's constantly throwing up poo poo to Opie asking why he didn't plug Ant's new show, and telling people Sirius won't allow talk about Anthony because he hurt the company so bad. I haven't listenned to the show much but Opie gives a pretty fair amount of mentions to Anthony's new show. Seems kind of unfair to pile on him for that. Then again Ant's brother seems to be a moron.

As someone who has never listened to A&O, could someone explain where Opie fits into this whole scandal? You guys are all fans of the duo... but clearly don't subscribe to Anthony's nutjob racist thinking. So why has Opie stuck with him (besides their contract) throughout these years? To add something to the thread, Jim Norton was on Barry Katz' Industry Standard podcast last week as one of the few non-executives/10 percenters he's had on the show (Katz was formerly Norton's manager). They talked about Anthony towards the end of the show and Katz pushed back on Norton's defense pretty hard.

My understanding is that the racism thing really started ramping up in 2008 (take a guess why), and from what I've listened to Opie has either tapped out or tried to steer the conversation in a new direction when Anthony did his Stormfront Power Hour. My feeling is that Opie knows that Opie and Anthony as a brand was worth more than either of them separately, and given how some people rag on him for not being funny he felt roughing it out was the best course. AS for Jimmie, there isn't much to say that hasn't already been said. He can be extremely selective when it comes time to calling people out.

Between the two big names, as someone who finds Opie more annoying than funny, I did always laugh around 2012/2013 when he would start obviously playing Candy Crush as soon as Ant got started on some race/political rant.

There have already been a couple of guys who've hit the nail on the head, they worked better as a pair than as two separate entities. Opie is the one who coordinates the team and keeps everything running smoothly, he isn't hitting a whole lot of home runs but that's not really what he should be doing anyway. That's where Anthony came in; despite all his racism Ant is hilarious when he gets the chance to be. Together you've got a brand that survived (sort of) 20 years and entertained a lot of people. Things are still working with Ant gone and by all accounts it's not like the show has even really had a dip in quality but who knows how it's going to turn out? As long as he wasn't running his mouth about black people Anthony was the funny man and Opie was more than happy to let him be when it kept people tuning in.

I know you're not asking me, but I thought I'd make the distinction that Opie's attempts to annoy the audience for the sake of humor were, at best, rather misguided. When he brought up the freak guests to get Jimmy, Ant, or the audience to get mad at them, that was actually funny. There was a freak show quality to it, and there was also an element of how much the talent could stand of those unlimited wells of stupidity before they themselves had to tap out. But when they would do extended food bits, then harp on how cool they were for doing radio segments that no one liked, then played audio bits based on those shows, Opie is being an imbecile. He's going off the shock value that "Wow, we're doing some bad radio on PURPOSE here! Hyuk hyuk!" Obviously, it doesn't take much for the Opster to do that.
