Cooking is often highly skilled labor (a fact that usually goes overlooked, especially when women or immigrants are the ones feeding people, as they usually are). But nowadays there is absolutely no dish, no matter how time-consuming or elaborate, that cooking enthusiasts won’t describe as “actually really easy to make!!!”. This is because they are delusional, unsympathetic people, who want nothing more than to draw you into their anachronistic cult of domesticity.

To clarify, it is not that I think people should not cook, or clean, or launder or garden. I like restaurants, and delivery, and I adore the odd fast food indulgence, but I understand that various aspects of keeping a home are enjoyable—even soothing—to some people. I can only assume a propensity toward housework of any kind can well be attributed to nature as well as nurture. A friend once claimed to me that his Italian Catholic upbringing inscribed upon him an almost spiritual pleasure in the ritualistic cleansing of his floors. Meanwhile his Jewish girlfriend, raised by a lesbian feminist, was happy to encourage his pious compulsions.

As a bohemian layabout made nervous by industriousness, I don’t even like when someone cleans on my behalf. I would prefer robots to clean my house, and maintain that dining programs must be integrated into any socialist vision (hardly a radical proposition; seize the hot bar at Whole Foods and you’ve got yourself a ready-made Soviet-style cafeteria). Anyway, home-cooked meals are nice, but they’re hardly necessary for a healthy and delicious diet. For example, I usually eat as if I were at a party—nibbling on charcuterie all day.

I understand that everyone has their strange little kinks—but as drudgery is not my personal fetish, I’m simply saying I’d rather press my hand on the burner than actually spend any measurable amount of time sweating over a hot stove. But obviously housework is a valid and necessary perversion—my issue is that a contemporary cult of neo-domesticity appears intent on undermining the difficulty and complexity of traditionally feminine labor by insisting upon the myth of effortlessness.

Now we come to this nightmarish bit also released today:

President Donald Trumps pre-recorded weekly address released today posted:

Foreign nations got rich at America's expense, and many special interests profited from this great global theft of American wealth. Since taking the oath of office the government has adopted a new slogan, "American First". And believe me, its about time. The era of economic surrender is over, and a new national pride is sweeping across our land. You see it, I see it, we all see it.

So much white nationalist rhetoric coming out all at once makes me suspect rather strongly that at least some of this is coming out as part of an intentional campaign. At the very least the white nationalist signaling in Trump's speech in Poland today is very similar to the white nationalist signaling in the weekly address here and will be interpreted by various white-supremacist groups in the US as being intentional signaling to them/their agenda.

It seems consistent that when Trump goes overseas he becomes more overtly nationalistic and racist. Maybe because he's away from the establishment and isolated with a small group of people that can more easily influence him. Miller for example seems to not really do anything domestically but goes all out when he gets his chance to write speeches for Trump when he's overseas. Trump also probably feels compelled to be bombastic about America being the greatest and most powerful when he's around other world leaders because of his whole strong man routine.

Plus, you know, knowing how to plan out and get a few meals out of one cooking session is cheaper in the long run than constantly eating out. You'd think that giving people the free time to actually cook/have a work-life balance would be something the author would be all for.

You realize the GOP is letting foreign powers alter the vote on top of their voter suppression, right? The only reason they're forcing through their extremely unpopular tax cuts is because they know they'll still be in power after the midterms.

My question is will people look at only the third time in US history that the majority party gained seats in the midterm and think something would be fishy, or will they just accept it as the Silent Majority?

They are trying to force through their extremely unpopular health plan and tax cuts because thats what they've been endlessly trying to do for 8 straight years and now that they finally have their chance they aren't going to just stop now. And they're still loving it up.

Also foreign (specifically Russian) interference in the election had nothing to do with altering individual vote totals.

China has been pushing the boundaries of what counts as territorial waters on a low boil like this for years and this has been basically a diplomatic response. It's specifically intended to bring the issue out into the open and make them say outright, "we claim this land because X" instead of just claiming it and then enforcing that claim.

Not that there isn't a huge amount of room for Donnie Dipshit to stuff his nose in and gently caress up everything because he doesn't understand diplomatic subtlety. I admit that's there. Just don't poo poo your pants about this being his first step in a master plan to invade the mainland or something.
