From listening to some Devil You Know, it sounds like Howard isn't quite the powerhouse he used to be. He's still a good, serviceable singer, he just lost those crisp magical cleans and some of his range. Going through several years of alcohol abuse and unchecked diabetes eventually probably had to take its toll. Speaking of which, from what I've heard, Devil You Know is disappointing. It sounds just like a run of the mill heavy core music.

Yeah, I thought Devil You Know was gonna blow my dick off (Howard on Vocals, and the lead from All Shall Perish on guitars? ) but the two albums they've put out have been pretty ehhhhh so far.

Agreed. Howard unfortunately sounds really uninspired I think Jesse sounded more like Howard on the last one than Howard did on either of the DYK albums

This is probably going to sound terrible, but honestly KSE is a lot less interesting without Howard at vocals. Dude has such a unique voice and range, it really helped put KSE so far out ahead of everyone else "back in the day" (lol). Jesse is cool and good, but nothing special imo. this is like the opposite of my opinion, i like howard and he is immensely talented but early KSE (AoJB) is some of the best core there is imo. jesse's old raspy vocals just brought everything together for me im liking the new one, it's similar to their last album which was pretty great but just a little bland.

I liked the end of heartache and the second self titled with Howard but overall I enjoy Jesse more. The last one was a bit bland but I was really looking forward to this one as the first album written with Jesse again and I'm not disappointed. I really like times of grace too.

I got the new KSE yesterday and gave it a few listens. Maybe it needs a few more, but I think it's a step down from their last album. There's a couple stand out tracks, but the rest of them really don't grab me like pretty much every track from Disarm The Descent did. On a separate note, Hate By Design could literally be a Slayer song. Not that that is a bad thing, of course.

I think the most exciting part of being in KSE must be having Dio cover one of your songs. So cool.

I don't know how many of you have heard of a band called "Hollow Earth" but they recently released an album called Silent Graves that's pretty good. Sort of has that Counterparts type post-hardcore thing going on. It's up on Google Music, so I would assume it's on all the other similiar services such as apple music and spotify also. E: actually after checking this ablum came out in 2014 so uhhhh woops. Still good, though.

Anyone remember Amia Venera Landscape? They are set to release a new album next month! It's now been six years since "The Long Procession", hope this one can step up. The live video they posted is really good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fp3PyuhZ5Jc

The other track they've hinted with was Weight Bearer and it was released in August, 2014: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JyBJZKdVrU4 It's been a long wait!

Holy poo poo FINALLY I felt like I'd been waiting for the new Amia album for way too long, didn't realize it had been 6 years I remember reading something on their Facebook I want to say in early 2014 that said they had written like 4 albums worth of material so here's hoping the wait isn't much longer and we'll get more stuff faster! Excited.

I know I'm outnumbered here but the same lot of you who really, genuinely enjoy KsE are also huge Parkway Drive fans who are extra-medium mediocre as well. That's not to say that the poo poo I listen to is fantastic by any stretch of the imagination, but when it comes to "heavy" music, bands like KsE and PD are like splashing around in a kiddy pool instead of diving into the deep end. As I Lay Dying will always be the better conventional metalcore band.

I think The Powerless Rise is the best AILD album; just feels like everything they made before that culminated in that release. Such a solid album from beginning to end.

Will I like Parkway Drive if I dig most KsE? Also, the new KsE album is decent and very listenable but I sort of think they peaked with Daylight Dies. The riffs on that record weren't as good as earlier or later work but Howard was the star and drat, what a vocal performance.

I've been listening to the new KSE since I got it and while it took me a bit to get into it, I think it's really great. Like easily as good as their last few. Everyone always jokes about lyrics in metal being lame, but I really connect with a lot of the songs on Incarnate. Probably mostly because I'm going through a divorce and ugly custody battle.

The problem I had with the new KSE is not that it's bad (it's not, it's good every time I listen to it). My problem with it is that even after immediately listening to the songs, I forgot what I just listened to For some reason it's just completely not memorable at all to me which is weird since I've loved everything they released aside from the terrible self-titled Howard ended with

Incarnate is definitely forgettable. Which is sad, because there's some jams on Disarm the Descent. Lately I've been in love with I Declare War. For lift the weights time, it doesn't get much more crushingly thick and angry.

Deep Blue was the first time Parkway clicked for me, and Atlas blew me away when it came out. Going back and listening to them now, I'd say Atlas is more varied while Deep Blue really "perfects" the Parkway formula from that era.
