For me, all I had was the silver shroud voice checks which make the goons run away but still leave the main guy. With buffout and vats I couldn't kill him in time to savage the hostage after 5 or 6 attempts so I just gave up on it.

It's not as though the time spent in the studio is taking time away from development. And you already have to voice every single NPC line in the game and have had to do so since Oblivion. Sure they're doubling their work but Bethesda has more money than Satan at this point, I think they can probably afford it. I just wish, like you said, that they could predict the kinds of obvious choices people would want to make in a situation, then write those instead of just asking which subset of Boston I want to murder.

Urgh, so many areas of this game feel like they were half finished, and instead of making a quest they just filled the area with enemies and left it. I would have loved to have a quest where you help out the kooky Mirelurk farmer who set up shop in the dry dock, but instead its just canned voice recordings over the intercom and just another room of monsters to kill.

I re-rolled to try a new build as well as do a different ending of the game and I think I missed some dialogue trigger early on because Dogmeat is just named Dog.

Yeah, that's Mama Murphy who tells you he's called Dogmeat, if I'm not mistaken? Gotta go up and meet Preston and gang to be able to do that, sadly (unless you've already done so and it's just some weird bug you're experiencing)

I never got mama Murphy to tell me Dogmeat's name. Just one day Valentine says "go get Dogmeat" and uh well okay Nick that's a very weird thing to suggest. Sockser fucked around with this message at 05:28 on Feb 5, 2016 |

I think I was supposed to talk to everyone when I first met Preston and pals because now that they've moved to Sanctuary there's no dialog to name dogmeat.

Valentine and Dogmeat go way back apparently.

My problem with Silver shroud was that I use melee. The whole "hit everything in front of you" perk? Not good in that situation. So I busted out some knuckles and beat Shinnin down while everyone watched. Then I reverse pickpocketed frags into his cowardly thugs. Don't mess with the silver shroud.

So as a first time fallout player, how much left is there to do after the main quest? I'm level 29 and having read how many missions there are, i haven't followed the freedom trail to discover the railroad. I've been doing side quests and exploring to extend the game.

I'm on my second playthrough, and I've played the game for 295 hours because apparently I am really fuckin' thorough. Carefully sneaking up and sniping rather than rushing into every combat and just shooting as fast as you can also slows things down considerably, in terms of hours.

I think there are only a couple of sidequests that might be considered locked out by plot progression, and even those are more approaches than exclusive quests. In Bunker Hill, a merchant will ask you to clear a location and then send you to Kessler who will get you to mess up raiders. Afterwards she will clear you for building caravan posts in your settlements. In Bunker Hill, an armed ghoul will recruit you to work for Cabot House, which will bypass the speech check you would get if you just stop by. At the Cambridge front outpost for the BoS, do a radiant quest for the knight and scribe, then you'll get a chain quest to track the members of a lost patrol. Other than that, follow the plot as much as you want. You can generally come back afterwards. Glazius fucked around with this message at 21:34 on Feb 5, 2016 |

This one is kind of pants-on-had as well. Normally I do Arcjet early, even if I don't plan to go with the BoS, just to get the XP and cool laser rifle. When I needed to get the chip analyzed, I went to the airport, and the BoS guard told me to go talk to Danse, who handles new recruits. I went there and fought off the zombies, and then Danse said that... he's been trying to send a distress signal to Boston Airport, but the signal is too weak??? I think I broke my "Minutemen/Independent" run Did everything with all factions up to Mass Fusion and didn't turn in Blind Betrayal, now Ingram is in the Prydwyn and I can't inform her of the Institute wanting to start the reactor so I can start "Spoils of War". I was trying to spare the RR but it looks like there's no way out of this unless I betray the BOS and complete Mass Fusion which was trying to avoid as well.
