As someone who only knows about Dune lore through cultural osmosis without reading the books or seeing any of the movies, I feel like I could listen to Jordan pester Dan with confusing Dune knowledge for twenty straight hours without getting bored.

As someone who hasn’t read the books in a long time but obviously has some affection for them (I mean, look at my avatar), listening to Jordan explain Dune lore poorly is honestly kinda frustrating.

Okay now that I’ve listened to the whole thing it was pretty delightful overall. When Jordan isn’t failing to mention crucial context for five minutes straight he hits some real descriptive dingers. “What if god was a greyhound bus” is perfect. I think the key is that as evocative and interesting and fun as Dune is, a lot of it is also very stupid.

I've never read Dune but I had the movie picture book as a kid and all I remember is Sting and some mutant thing in a giant aquarium. Both were equally shocking to a young me. I also always assumed that the Butlerian Jihad was all the butlers rising up against their rich employers. I did see the first of the new Dune movies and it was pretty good. Jordan should start a Dune podcast and have Alex on.

Jordan pronounces lots of normal English words very wrong. I have no idea how you pronounce Dune guy's name but I'm not surprised at someone getting it wrong.

It's two syllables, Jordan's absolutely pronouncing it wrong as a joke. "vil" followed by something between "noov" and "nuv" (with maybe a slight "eh" in the middle for Canada's sake)
