Beer4TheBeerGod posted:The Warp is another dimension that runs parallel to reality, and by traveling through the warp you can cross space far quicker. There's a downside. The Warp is essentially a sea of pure psychic energy, and it's inhabited by unfathomable beings of incomprehensible malice and cruelty. Simply looking into the warp unprotected would drive you mad, and if the fields that protect each ship as they travel are compromised (even for an instant) then daemons will cross the threshold and wreak havoc among the crew. There are numerous stories of ships being lost to the warp, and often those are eventually returned to reality in the form of space hulks. A space hulk is essentially an amalgamation of ships, the interstellar equivalent of the tides of an ocean bringing together a collection of garbage, and actual dimensions are hard to convey. However then can easily be tens of kilometers long and full of twisting corridors and arrangements that make safe travel impossible. You could easily spend a lifetime trying to cross one, although the typical reason for this is because something horrible will kill you along the way. I had a stint where I thought I wanted to play 40k but it turns out I'm just really into the setting and I don't like Games Workshop or their games. I wish that the IP was owned by anyone else so that it could be used in a more open way. Derek, you are my Horus Heresy. Somebody please make this useful

Lowtax posted:I want a spaceship built entirely out of doors I'd be curious if you still want this after you play the tech demo as it is now. Getting in and out of ships in space is cancer/aids/impossible. Your character pulses back and forth and jerks around, and every other attempt to get in a ship ends up shooting you across the galaxy at speeds faster than a ship can fly. I imagine if you manage to obtain a ship made from doors, opening and closing just one would make the entire ship explode.

When you buy a space shooty mans game, you want to do the shooty mans, not go to the loving store to buy groceries. I took one look at this game and decided it wasn't for me long ago because all sim games are boring. It wasn't until my cousin mentioned this game over Christmas that I discovered the horrible deliciousness of this thread. He didn't seem to have a strong reaction when I told him I was a goon so maybe there's hope for him. my redneck cousin says he hates your troll guts Derek.

Beer4TheBeerGod posted:Yes. The smallest starship in Warhammer 40K is the size Imperial Star Destroyer and carries tens of thousands of crew. Each vessel is a shrine to the Machine God, most being millennia old and carrying technology that man has long since lost the ability to recreate or even maintain outside the use of byzantine rituals. They are as much cathedrals as they are conveyances. To the men trapped inside the ships represent their only protection again the uncaring void, the unspeakable horrors of the Warp, and the angry fire of their enemies. It's only natural then that such vessels would be decorated in demonstrations of adoration and worship. The crew are typically pressed into service, taken from worlds that may never seen a machine and forced to toil in horrible conditions to ensure the vessel runs smoothly. Imagine work gangs of hundreds of men maneuvering torpedoes hundreds of meters long into firing tubes, while tech priests sing praises and glory in the hope that the Machine Spirit of the torpedo that is likely older than all of the workers combined will rouse itself in fury to detonate its holy payload. woah fake internet spaseship overload

Welcome back forums Anyone else miss having a person to talk to when contacting CIG support? CIG must be loving this, they're not at fault, it's all because of Beer My framerate sucks, I just spent 2 hours doing nothing and... I always feel like I am missing something. What parts of the engine is done and what is left? quote:While I am impressed by the technical feats achieved to bring us the mini-PU 2.0, I think there is still a lot of "game engine" work to do. It doesn't work that way D: quote:Major pieces left, quote:We are basically 1/3 through. Every answer is different, Open Development at work!
