If you're streaming a game, then it doesn't matter that much whether the game is boring, what matters is whether you're boring. If you're putting your face in the corner of the screen, it's because you're making yourself part of the content - and that means it's up to you to enhance the good moments and cover for the dull moments, basically.

RPGs and other slow-paced games are often harder to stream, though - the slower pace, relative lack of surprising moments, and lack of need for twitch reflexes all mean that you often need to put more into it to make it entertaining.

I'd say that streaming isn't exactly the same as Let's Playing, though. Since streaming is live entertainment, you have to carry through all the long boring parts that'd get edited out of a LP, and most of your viewer interaction is on the fly during the stream rather than in a thread between videos. With some effort, streaming can be integrated into a LP, but I don't think it's something that just comes naturally - it's something you have to plan for and keep in mind when you're running the streams.

Yeah I can locally record these and cut them down into something more interesting and just live stream the fast paced stuff.

Huh, you know, I don't think I ever asked myself this.

In hindsight I think it's largely to show off some weird games that kind of defined my gaming childhood/teenage years but which I never see anyone else mention(for the most part), in part to see how much of my love for them was rose-coloured lenses and how much was them actually being good. Plus I like seeing people's reactions to some of the jankier and weirder parts.

I started doing it because I got extremely bored one day when all my other projects were going nowhere. I thought it might be a fun little experiment to try, so I wrote a few updates for games I hadn't seen done yet just to see what it'd be like. After a bit of that, I said gently caress it and just turned one of 'em into a real LP. The rest is history, albeit short history.

It's turned out to be a rather enjoyable way to show off obscure games and just share a playthrough in a unique way, even if the amount of work that goes into it sometimes conflicts with said other projects. I'd make it my primary focus, but it's not like I really make money doing it and you have to earn a living somehow. I suppose the same can be said for most hobbies, really.

For those of you that watch my videos, you know that I do introductory videos to my LPs. For those of you that don't watch my videos; Hi, I do introductory videos to my LPs.

I'm currently working on a project that was originally supposed to be for last Halloween, but got pushed back to THIS Halloween because I decided I wanted to do a history report, which continued to grow and grow, which will translate into a bigger video than I feel I'm prepared to do. Needing to assemble appropriate music and visuals to accompany the information seems like a very daunting task that I'm not sure I'll be up for.

I was wondering if anyone here could point me in a direction where I might be able to find someone (or some ones) that could help me assemble all of this into a video. I figured I should be looking into this sooner rather than later to figure out what my plan will be.

Hey, this is gonna be a weird request but I know there was a semi-narrative, screenshot WoW LP thread with multiple contributors on here, kinda close in style to the TOR thread. I'm 80% sure it existed, but the master list doesn't have it and using the forum searching functions causes me physical pain. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Am I just crazy?

I have a vague recollection of a World of Warcraft LP years upon years ago, like during either Vanilla or TBC at best.
Never read it myself though and just remember seeing the thread on the list.

Hm, that does sound like an interesting read, although by the sounds of it, it's probably in the archives. I should probably get that someday, given how much trawling through the Master List I do.

I once considered doing a similar idea myself, as I've got a local private server for WotLK I set up like a few years ago on a whim. Never went through with it though. That and for whatever reason, enemies always showed fighting bare-handed, because jank client stuff, I guess.

I've been considering a "casual LP", whatever that would be, but then I remind myself I'm already doing two LPs as is. And yet I still write updates and prepare files for LPs I don't have time for. I truly have been bitten by the terrible thing that is the LP bug.

Regardless, as it's a question that's been on my mind for a while now: are there any usual conventions with how much content to show off of a VN that's still presently available firsthand? It feels like that'd potentially damage sales for the developer, although maybe the LP itself may make up for that in advertising?

It's an odd question without a real definite answer, but I wanted to know what people think.

When you put it like that, it reminds me that I can say the same for quite a few games and franchises myself- the LP Archive alone introduced me to a lot over the years. In that light, it does make my worry seem a little needless.
I like doing LPs to bring attention to games under the radar, and this game fits that bill I'd think, so regardless the amount of potential lost purchases are very low anyways.

When it comes to completeness, it's a Ren'Py game so I've literally got the entire game's script at hand. I guess it's a matter of how much I really show off. I could literally show off everything- there's multiple endings per route, multiple unique early game over states and a decent amount of incidental dialogue and even that wouldn't be much of a burden. Or I could just stick to something more of show just the main route ending or two and go with that.

The plan would be to let the thread stumble through the choices anyhow, so maybe it'd be best to just ask the readers then.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask the question.

I encountered an enemy with a rather questionable design in the game that I LPed eventhough all the other character are fully covered. Both the main character and the villain. I'm asking if that enemy design is still appropriate from SA Forum. In my opinion, the enemy design is maybe only T Rated. But I better be careful and ask first.

How often does that character show up and how much can you avoid showing them

Like I don't think it crosses into rule breaking territory but I'd like to have as little of *that* in the subforum as possible

I don't want to make any official mod ruling before Sally and Fedule get a chance to chime in, but if you could do this:

No one left uncured.
I got you.

This is about where I'm at on the matter honestly. You can just explain, once, that there's this one unusually questionable enemy design that you refuse to show, and thereafter just quickly edit something over it when it shows up. Bonus points if the way you censor them is funny. If the visual design of the sprite is the only thing that's actually objectionable this will be sufficient.

It's a pretty rare enemy that is also a recruitable enemy. Since I'm LPing with screenshot, I could only shows her once, albeit under heavy censorship, and I think I can just not use her at all in my team.

Since the enemy is a magician, I think I can replace her sprite with Vivi from Final Fantasy IX. He's adorable and have better design.

Thanks for the answer guys. Now I can continue with the update after I Photoshop that screenshot.

Not every game needs to be LPed. And if you're LPing a game that has questionable content, not everything needs to be shown off. SALP is not a database seeking to archive the totality of video games in human existence. In general, my thoughts are that if you have to ask you probably shouldn't do it. But if you're going to LP the game, the onus of censorship is on you. Don't give us a reason to gas the thread.
