Those Jansport backpacks were just ubiquitous for whatever reason. The suede bottom (and the kind with the diamond attach points above the small pocket) were great to write on with witeout pens, too.KHLAV KALASHNIKOV posted:What the hell teenagers played with yo-yos back then? I can't hate on Jansport too much, I've been using the same one for like 17 years now, and other than an iffy zipper, it's fine.

I had those Airwalks, they were the comfiest shoes I've ever had. Wore them until the sole wore through to the pavement. edit: just looked and they still sell them now as a classic model. £95 here in the UK though. Frankston has a new favorite as of 22:56 on Nov 18, 2018 |

I think I got Airwalks after seeing an ad for them on MTV or some such thing. Cue 20 years of me buying skate shoes despite never managing to skate successfully.

I don't think I've ever stood on a skateboard in my life but old school airwalks were the most comfortable shoes ever. No idea what happened but the last pair I had was crap. They were inexpensive, comfortable as hell, and lasted forever. I'd still be buying them if they kept making them right.

The skateboard wheels brought back latent memories for me. My favorite logo was spitfire. I was trying to look for some 90s thing where there was a fire logo and a water logo that were enemies and I thought it was spitfire but apparently it was World Industries Anyway I stole my brothers old spitfire hoodie with the logo printed down the arms, thought I was such a badass wearing it to school

I think I might have mentioned this before, but in the very late 90s/very early 00s, some schools tried to push a ''seethrough bookbag' requirement because they didn't want kids to bring any sort of weapons or drugs to school. So, for about a year or so I think a big mover at all the local stores were those clear backpacks made out of some kind of plastic. There were some pushes for students to just do the classic belt wrapped around their pile of books. I think some mesh bags too. However, that was all pretty short lived, for various reasons. One likely reason being that there might be some students with completely legitimate items in their bag that might be very uncomfortable for them to have on display while walking down the halls. There was the issue that the bags weren't very durable.

I cannot remember if it was the 90s, but I loved those converse skate shoes. I had at least 3 pairs of them. no it must have been high school because I remember going to the University Library with a friend I only had in HS and a girl came up and complimented them.

I was thinking, was the video for Sex Laws the first time I ever saw Jack Black in something? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQfwgzoiq4c This always reminds me how great Beck was, I guess still is? Though I wasn't really into his real folky era, but all the dirty hipsters I worked with at HMV were super into it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgSPaXgAdzE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPfmNxKLDG4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxugaMpt1vU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVay-RfNGv8 You know, the nonsensical weird abstractness of his early videos really remind me of Adult Swim humor. I would not be surprised if there was some connection there.

You just made me remember the HUGE debate in the skating circles of my youth. One camp said Converse were the best skating shoes because their light weight allowed you to feel your board and control it better. The other camp said Vans were better because they were more squishy which added bounce and protection. Loads of flat land technical people liked them because they were an excellent cushion for the top of your feet. I was and still am a Vans guy.

I've not seen any of these shows, because I was an older teen so these shows were too juvenile for me. I was to busy watching TNG and Ds9. Yea, in the 90s being a under employed slacker in your 20s was a lifestyle choice, now its just reality, not just in your 20s, but your 30s and 40s as well. I always laugh when I see the book in this video "mind over midi". BV3000 was kind douchy, like after releasing this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLBM3VTxJEU I remember him being interviewed and worrying he was becoming a joke, that he was a serious musician but people were more interested in the jokey random videos and irrevelent lyrics than his actual skill as a songwriter. That's like the fastest way to become a one hit wonder.

Or a one album wonder: see MGMT. "We're totally serious artists who can do more than "Kids" and "Electric Feel", guys!" Musicians need to realize that yeah, it might suck to be known for one song, but being a musician who's known for anything is like winning the lottery. You shouldn't feel bad if you can't win the lottery twice.

The dude who wrote I Am the One and Only is totally down with what he is, and I've heard he's even done gigs where he just repeatedly plays that song and nothing else. Thing about that one is it's not even a one hit wonder. The chorus is. Pro tip. These things are always fun to look up in Spotify because it'll tell you how many listens an artist's most popular tracks have got, e.g. Chesney Hawkes is I am the One and Only - 14.8 million I'm a Man not a Boy - 296k There are better examples, but that's quite a ratio. Jack Black was also in the X-Filed Season 3 episode D.P.O., which incidentally is one of my favorite X-Files episode, AND contains Giovanni Ribisi, AND a prominent use of 90s alternative and grunge in the soundtrack to include Filter - Hey Man, Nice Shot featured front and center in what feels like 75% of the episode. If you have’t watched it, do so. Additionally: this episode is hella 90s because it also includes an arcade as a main backdrop in the story. Though arcards aren't a 90s thing, the 90s did give the last gasps of the arcade as we knew it before the 2000s, mmos, and the internet totally killed them. dialhforhero has a new favorite as of 22:04 on Nov 25, 2018 |

Arcades died because by the Saturn/Dreamcast/PS2 generation you could get an arcade quality experience at home.
